Got to say am quite impressed, got it very sharp indeed.
I guess that if the edge is razor sharp, then should I assume the edge is weaker?
Cheers
Another 100 thread
Firstly I would like to state I am not affiliated to any products stated in this thread, I am merely trying to round up 100 tools popular with bushcrafters that dont burn a huge hole in the wallet.

This is yet another low cost axe that I have been waiting to review for a while. It seems to be available at every Home Depot that Ive seen, so I thought people might want to see something about it. This hatchet exemplifies what people mean when they say hardware store axe...
For this review I want to take a look at an axe, manufactured by a company, with a history spanning back to the golden age of axe manufacturing, the Snow & Nealley Hudson Bay Axe.

Axe Length: 24 inches

One of the most successful axes in bushcraft has become the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe. One of the reasons for its success is that is it light weight (1.5lb head) and relatively short (20 inch handle), making it easy to carry in a ruck sack. For some reason however, there are very few...
Here is the next affordable hatchet that I wanted to review. It is the Northern Tool 24oz Camp Axe. For some of the pictures here, I have removed the paint form the head of the hatchet so it can be better seen.
Specifications:Manufacturer: Northern Tool + Equipment

I decided to do a review on this hatchet because I know that Estwing axes have become rather popular, and they are widely available at hardware stores. I wanted to see how they stack up to some of the other axes I have been testing. Estwing makes two hatchets that look very similar. One is the...

The next medium size axe I want to review is the Council Tool Hudson Bay Camp Axe (manufacturers code 175HB28). It has proven to be an excellent tool from a company that deserves a closer look. For some of the pictures the paint has been removed from the head to provide for a better look...

Mooching around the car boot, on the lookout for buoyancy jackets for my new sport (canoeing) I came across the following axe. The head is clearly hand forged with hammer marks still evident. A lovely looking axe, and for £5 I simply could not resist it. Well, £4.70 actually since I'd spent 30p...

My wife bought me an old axe at a car boot. She got it for a song - £3.50. She is excellent at finding bargains! ;)
It looks well made (I am a novice...
Tried everthing and spent ages on the internet and still nothing. My old chopper needs good wood and frankly all I can manage is soft. The thought of spending hours rubbing a soft shaft regardless of the attention to detail involved is not going to make it hard.
I've been after a length of Ash...
