    SWAP: My DC4 for a smaller DC3

I've got a DC4 that seems just a little too large to slip into my pocket. I've got one of Shep's great field sharpening kits to put in a bag, but would like to try the smaller DC3 for more of an everyday carry to have along with my SAK.

    Countryside management principles

I hoping there are some folks who can point me in the right direction on where to find some good reading on countryside management principles. I'm doing some voluntary work for my local wildlife trust and fancy learning a bit more about the subject.

    Bow making books

Can anyone recommend a good bow making book? I know there are lots of good websites and instructional youtube videos floating around the digital ether, but are there books on the subject that people here have found useful? Cheers

    Spoon knives: Left AND right?

Just wondering if anyone here uses both a left handed and right handed spoon knife. I've only ever used a right handed spoon knife and haven't encountered any major problems. Is it just a marketing ploy or is there an actual benefit to using both?

    Practice escaping zombies

Saw an ad for this and thought it sounds like a bit of a lark: http://www.zombieevacuation.com/index.php A 5k race through a zombie infested area!

    Bear Grylis Fired by Discovery

Apparently Bear has been fired for not doing two mystery projects he was contracted for. Interested to see how this pans out.

    Wood storage

I've managed to get hold of some wood (mainly birch) and I'm not sure of the best way to store it without it drying out too much before I can get round to turning it into something interesting. Hoping for some helpful suggestions on keeping it 'fresh'.

    Orford Woodland and a sloyd

Recently received these from Mr. Orford. Very pleased with them, I must say. Both are apple wood, 01 steel.

    Another sharpening question...

I'm able to consistently sharpen my tools to the point where they'll cleanly slice paper. I have a DC4 and one of Sheps 1000/6000 field kits. On the strop I use Brasso. However, I struggle to get them 'shaving' sharp (as a result my left arm is embarrassingly hairy!). Now I'm under the...

    Just for fun

    A bit of work.

Took me a few months to do all these. Quite happy with this little collection. So far I think I've given about half of it away to friends and family.

    New glasses!

Just wanting to wax lyrical about getting new glasses. Not only am I now (after a year overdue) on my correct prescription, but these don't have any scratches! It's like I've been upgraded to HD. The only downside is that now I can see just how haggard I look. Maybe trips in front of the mirror...

    Spoons in Iraq (pic heavy)

Here's a selection of what I've managed to carve while in Iraq. Hope you enjoy! Pine Eucalyptus Eucalyptus spork (my first!) Not entirely sure what wood this is. It's pretty light and porous. Pine root, has a richer yellow colour to it. Eucalyptus I...

    Mystery Bird

I'm not sure if people here are aware of this, but the Guardian website has been running a fun little feature for a while now. Every couple of days they post a picture of a bird and give readers 48 hours to identify it, but ask people not to give away the answer too soon. It seems like a nice...

    A terrible mistake.

I broke my knife yesterday. I broke it doing something I knew I shouldn't have been doing. I was batoning a dry and knotty piece of pine when I decided it was a bit too much for the knife. So I while trying to pry the knife loose I was putting a fair amount of lateral pressure on it. Too much in...

    Thought provoking photo gallery

Really interesting photo gallery showing what celebrities would save from their homes, contrasted against what Vietnamese villagers rescued from their recent flooding. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/gallery/2011/may/12/martin-parr-floods#/?picture=374457514&index=0 For me, I'd...
