    DIY Tripods

I made one from 3 lengths of old copper pipe, drilled a hole through all three at one end and used wire to secure them together, used lightweight chain going through the wire to hang pots on. It takes a 8 quart dutch oven no probs and cost me nothing.

    Life Changing Books?

It matters not what books you read, what is reading the book? To see what reads the book is enlightenment, simple, very life changing and saves you a lot of reading.:)

Fenix LD01 Cree Q5 Anyone tried it

Not sure how you work that out, both 80 lumens max output and the Fenix is a third of the price of the surefire and 75mm compared with 100mm long! I use LD01 as EDC and it fits down the side of my wave pouch with a spare AAA and mini lighter the other side, great mini flashlight IMO.

    Sasta Clothing

I've got a sasta goretex olive green/orange cap I picked up in Finland a few years ago, it was on special offer but that's all I could afford! Great quality kit but the price even if bought direct from Finland is top end.

    Wilderness philosophers/writers

There is an old Zen proverb, “Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.” What’s the difference? The tasks are the same. The need is the same. What about the frame of mind? Who is chopping? Who is carrying water? The phrase oneness with...

    Knife Based Survival Kit

I paid a visit to Westons brewery earlier this year and did the tour, they were over run at the tasting bar at the end of the tour so we ended up helping ourselves! 3 pints of the vintage 8.2% later I ended up buying a case and the rest of the day was a bit of a blur, lovely stuff though and...

End of the world is nigh

Cern will not cause the end of the world , my money is with Hawking, they won't find Higgs Boson or "God particle" because their theory is flawed. Science will always struggle to find God until the scientists that are looking look into themselves.

    Leatherman or Gerber?

Broke my original leatherman wave a few weeks ago, my own fault snapping off the serated blade digging in a dead tree! I sent it back to leatherman and they sent back a brand new black wave and new leather sheath all under warranty, I also have an original pst which is still going strong after...

    wilkinson sword survival knife saw,

Welcome to bcuk, It's not really a saw on the back of the blade rather a notching tool, I used to use mine when making pegs. Solid knife but many find them too heavy to be practical, I still sometimes get mine out for an airing when not taking a galok or an axe.

    IPK Shelter practising

They still don't come with eyelets but you can put some in pretty easily, I put eyelets in one of mine in case I need another tarp but I usually use them as a darn good groundsheet.

Dowsing experiment - bushcraft members required

Some GIs were issued with a single rod during the Vietnam war to find land mines, only one rod because one hand had to always be on their rifle. I use them with a fair degree of accuracy usually for finding lost articles.

    Big Batteries

They sound similar to leisure/carvan type, a leisure battery is designed to store power and release it over a much longer period of time than a normal car battery which is designed to give out a lot of power in a very short space of time. Charge them up with mains power then connect your...

The scary, the strange, the paranormal...

Again I totally agree John, I found it difficult to meditate for any length of time until I found walking meditation, now I'm in a state of meditation much more of the time, quieting your mind chatter is the key to many spiritual awakenings.

    Global Warming....Man-made or Natural Occurence

I think this could be debated until we boil or freeze and it seems the scientific community are not doing much better Survey: Less Than Half of all Published Scientists Endorse Global Warming Theory What I don't agree with is the fact that the mainstream media and governments take it as...

The scary, the strange, the paranormal...

True John, a lot of things fall into place looking at life from this point of view, I understand what gregorach is saying though, something I understand is a very common trap during spiritual experiences, but if you end up worshiping a guru or messiah you are deceiving yourself, we are all...
