Ron Hood

I’ve only recently come across Ron Hood, but honestly I feel like he should be far more prominent in the bushcraft “hall of fame”. Im sure trying to find out a bit more about him and his methods. Does anyone else have any interesting links, resources or literature made by him?

That’s a blast from the past. I would say that he was there at the start of the internet. I remember back reading those geocities sites with pictures that loaded line by line….

It certainly is. I remember the name very very well. Didn’t he have one of the first websites too? Something like Survive.com.

Thread 'Why isn't Ron Hood given enough Credit?'

Hi,I just thought I would ask all you Outdoors people,why is it that Ron Hood and Karen Hood for that matter ar'nt given alot more Credit and applause for there work in Bushcraft and Survival,Seems to me alot of us, me included have learnt a fair bit on the Subject from them, Afew Bushcraft/Survival dvds and the like seem to have para-phrased alot of his work in the past 2 years or more.

I made some approximate copies of the pattern. Still have some blanks to grind. It’s a fun knife but no wire breaker on mine.

I know age is a bugger isn’t it. But I thought even you would make it through a few posts before forgetting what it’s all about

I seem to remember some drama. But I can’t remember what it was all about and what it was centred on. And I may just be misremembering. It’s been a quarter of a century plus.

I think my kindest description was that it was a sore hand in the making and potentially two of them because you have to hold what you're cutting/scraping/peeling too.

It was a gadgety idea looking for 'any' decent application.

The only thing I found worse was .....I can't mind it's name now, it birled round, Mike, @BorderReiver passed it to me, he'd won a raffle of some variety and had this. Mike might mind it's name. It was like two ulus, sort of, with sharp corners that turned round a central button thing.

I think the designer saw one of those, I know of it as a hachoir, and decided that two different blades on one handle was a good idea.
The turning was lethal.
Vaguely reminded me of the Falkirk Wheel
