    Some food for thought...

I havent posted on here for ages, and maybe its time to jump back in... I liked the observations in the OP, and most of the replies, though differing, have that ring of truth to them. For me, and this is an honest, and laying myself open to ridicule answer, but; I enjoy being outside, whether...

    crab trapping

After buying my kids some drop nets for crabbing (you don't really believe that do you!) I found a much bigger stamp of crab could be caught off the pier, by targeting the deeper water on the far side, I had to add weight to combat the current, but in no time had a few close to eating size, I...

    Anyone seen this?

You know a cheap rod that does nothing special, but a little of everything can be great fun, and its nice to buck the pretencious types who have to have a rod for every situation (like me!) My kids have £5 tele spinning rods and I like taking em down our local river for stunted wild trout, it...

    Found a Shrimp/Crab Cage under £5

Its a compilation af funny stories about huntin shootin trackin and fishin in Idaho, in his youth, and Sneed was the all seeing and all knowing game warden http://www.amazon.co.uk/They-Shoot-Canoes-Dont-Owlet/dp/0805000305/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1279556228&sr=8-1

    fly fishing beginners combo

Its worth saying that knowledge is more important than tackle, especially in the early stages. The guy who taught me to cast had a Sage rod costing in excess of £600, and it was far to much for me to handle (you wouldn't teach someone to drive in a Ferrari, would you?) at that time, more...

    Freshwater edible fish

Carp were brought into this country to eat, Via monks etc. The main reason they are no longer eaten is the people who sport fish for them, angling clubs spend huge sums buying these fish, which can live for 50+ years, their investment is then payed back by selling tickets to catch em...If...

    Are mallards edible?

Mallard are not only edible but sublimly tasty... And if you've only eaten farmed duck your in for a pleasant surprise, allow 1 per person, as theres not much on them, but in the autumn (when they can be shot) the blackberries are about...and along with a little port.... Just don't grab em...

Need a snare that kills a rabbit quickly

Surely a second hand air rifle is the way to go? Or even blag a gun to borrow (do you still have your license?) Try people with horses, the effects of rabbits (holes) in a field of horses can be catastrophic, they are the people most in need of rabbit control. get loads of ground to shoot...

    white death Caenis fly

sadly the usual tactic is to chuck a huge lure at em and either aggravate em into taking or offer something bigger and tastier looking...I'm just waiting for a hatch of white and green cats whiskers and I'll be straight on the water lol

Nice one, m8 only thing is, how come you've not cast a line until now this year? I went out on friday, after two previous attempts were fruitless...and bagged up (6 fish!) in just over two hours, so home early and slammed one on the Barbie:)

    Who eats Fish?

Quite in keeping I guess is the fact that I only eat what I can catch, the stuff in the shops is usually minging by the time you buy it.... Probably my fave fish is red gurnard, but its hard to target specifically, like Dabs too, gut em and on the barbie, flip em like a pancake - nice Pollack...
