Hi all here's my first knife sheath I made
Used old leather samples from a settee which I stiffened up using bicarbonate of soda in the water when I formed it

Shaping done and part cut out

Welting from a leather sole I acquired from work

First lot of stitching I done by hand

I didn't like it so used the stitcher at work to do it

and then finally made a belt loop and knife securing strap

And then finally here's my knife in the sheath :D

Quite chuffed with my first attempt but have changed bits all the way through so it's not as neat as I would like but it's all part of the learning curve. Also next time I make one I'll definitely use thicker veg tan and not a leather settee sample (although the rhino pattern does look awesome IMO)

That's a lot better than many first attempts, 'specially mine! If you find the leather a little floppy or thin, get some beeswax and some turpentine, ( the real stuff) melt them slowly together over a low heat and dip the sheath in the hot wax - stiffens it, waterproofs it long term and looks great.......................atb mac
