A cheap tarp

What do you guys think of this offer from a well known outdoor store. At £ 14.99 delivered it seems cheap. I have no connection with said peoples etc.

should be ok I would think - once you ditch the poles i would think it would be reasonably weighted as well. Looks a suitable size for a hammock but not sure how convenient it would be compared to a rectangular one for ground use.

at £15 seems worth a punt to me!

Just ordered one, thanks for the heads up. At this price we could just keep it in the family dogwagon as a 'oooh look the sun has come out let's have a picnic' kind of tarp or a 'right, what can I wrap this body in now I've used up all the old carpet' kind of tarp ...

pitch it tightly enough and with the sides at a good steep angle and it'll be fine for a weekend with a bit of rain - tropical downpours might be a problem.

it weights 520 grams (including thick stock lines), 420 grams excluding the lines - which is not bad.

And it's worth getting the DD one, just because it's a lot more versatile.

At just over 3m it's a pretty good size for hammocking, I can't see any loops on the ridge though apart from the two outer ones.

Not too waterproof but should be handy for drier weather

The point for me though is that at £11.99 it doesn't have to be a world beater. I'll ditch the poles and add in a couple of these http://www.robens.de/Furniture.aspx?b=Robens&bid=1&lid=1&l=en-GB&ProductId=2053&pid=6&CatId=566 and keep it in the car (already have a number of these poles) (which I highly recommend for any family tent campers btw).

The material is useful enough on its own...well for me anyway.

It may not be as light as a feather, but I bought one of these last week. British army desert DPM basha/stretcher only £10 & delivery. It's a good size and given that it's designed to carry a kitted up squaddie I guess it's pretty tough!
