A cheap tarp

I stand corrected.
The Blacks site says it's 1.8kg!

It is 1.8 Kg with the 2 steel poles, the tent pegs etc.
Tarp + lines = 520grams.
3.15m x 3.15m is a generous size, v. good for hammocking.

The army basha is undeniably tougher, more waterproof etc but at 2m x 2.5m a bit small for a hammock.
As always, this is my opinion, YMMV.

My attention to detail=nil point. :sad6:

I was just curious if you could tell me what the length of the shortest part of the sides is? I'd be using it for ground dwelling and I cant tell from the photo if it would offer enough protection. It looks as though the 'points' at either end could act similar to beaks but I just want to be sure.
Thanks

Sure - it's 3.25 m at the ridge and the sides narrow down to about 2m (from memory ). Look at the Millets' site, they have a diagram with the dimensions.
If you need precise measurements, I'll measure it on Friday (I am working late today and tomorrow) and come back to you.

EDIT 21:05: in fact I measured it and the angle of the beak is steeper than I thought - the sides narrow down to 1.40m

Thanks for that. The dimensions on the sites only gave that it was 3.25m both ways. I think though that it should cover and I can always alter it if need be.

There is always the one they sell at Decathlon for about £20 which is 3m x 3m square (again with 2 steel poles etc., similar weight to the Eurohike, i.e. about 1.8 KG with poles and pegs and bag, or about 0.5 kg on its own). I have used the Decathlon one for camping for the last 2 years and it has plenty of coverage for our family to eat under (2 adults, 3 kids)

Hugo, did you get one? Mine arrived Friday. Haven't tried it out yet but it looks sturdy enough for family use.

There are no ridgeline tabs but that can be overcome with tarp clips or similar (so long as you're not expecting a monsoon). Certainly stable enough with the poles in situ.

Thanks for the measurements Seg. I can't believe I never noticed the tarp at Decathlon. I often pick up bits from there and surf their site. It looks more ideal for ground dwelling, since the square shape gives more versatility. :D
