I have cctv at the front and rear of our house, I always left it on until my wife decided to get Freeview in the bedroom, it's not enough she has Sky downstairs. She takes the plug out of the socket to put her crap on rather than video some of the rabble that pass by.

I always thought we'd come unstuck through this selfish act and I was right, came home earlier to find out that, at 1:30pm, she put our grandchild, who was in her pram, out onto the step at the front door, she then went inside for something, when she returned, her purse had been snatched from the pram.

Our baby is terrified of me never mind strangers, she didn't cry at all which is strange, I'd also left my car on the path while I went to work on my m/bike, the prikk must have jumped over the garden railing which is about 12 yards from the step, our cctv in full view and a neighbour's cctv facing ours.

A couple of times today, someone had tried to buy something a lesson that cctv is more important than shyte tv, especially where I live. Our youngest lad is going apesh!t and wants to find this bit of excrement before the police.....and I want him before my son.

There ain't much doubt in my mind it's a drug addict as anyone else would have seen the camera and the car up the path and the other thing is, he doesn't know who we are....YET! if he does hear our name he'll most probably want to leave the country but that doesn't make it any easier.

We need a great deterrent for these robbin' smackheads, burglars and muggers, they get away with light sentences it makes no damn odds to them. I feel sorry for my wife who is taking our three g/kids on holiday abroad next week, she's worked very hard looking after her frail father, minding our youngest g/child and working in the hospital during the early evening. Am I out of order in saying I'd like to decapitate the barsteward?

ive put several systems in for friends and i have hardwired the power. The temptation to unplug is removed.

Nothing i or others can say, it might actually have been a blessing in disguise, it could have been a junkie ready to mug and instead got a safer target.

My wife is unlucky at this lark, some years back, as she stood up to get off the bus at the terminal, her bag fell to the floor, she picked it up and some bits that came out, when she arrived at her place of work, she found out to her disgust, her dad's £250 missing. She telephone the bus depot cos the bus drivers inspect the bus when everyone has got alighted.
They informed her she will have to wait until the driver returns.

She phoned me and we visited the depot later....nothing, zilch. I was convinced and still am to this day, the driver pocketed the dosh.

Think I need a divorce. :(

woa steady on there! Youre pretty angry and rightly so, I would be to, but sometimes I think if these things are going to happen they are going to happen, these people find a way, we have to be thankful for small mercies - the baby was not harmed and I think thats the main thing. They may not have been a drug addict either, there is plenty hard nosed people out there with no excuse.

Bleagh. Bad luck.

CCTV doesn't fix everything though, I had to wade into a mugging on a train a couple of years ago when two lads who were ripped to the t*ts grabbed an ipod off an older chap. To his credit, he decked one, who bounced back up like he was spring loaded (clearly some heavy duty stuff they were on). A brief scuffle later, the train stops, the oiks jump off, the guard arrives and confirms he's got the lot on tape. He calls plod, who confirm they can be there within the hour. A full hour. At Aldershot station. Mid-evening, not even chucking out time. And they made it clear that there was little chance of getting any sort of result despite having the lot on tape.

The problem is that the government have swapped police out for cameras, which is all well and good but the police don't have the resources to follow up even when they've got the evidence.

perhaps you should just be glad that they didnt take more than a purse. it is a bit daft to leave a child alone like that.

Yer first part of the sentence is quite correct, it's what I thought but yer second half, with respect, is rubbish,
we live in a 5 house cul-de-sac with houses only on one side,
we are the first house,
we are overlooked on three sides,
we have a rail on top of brickwork front and right side
the front door is at least 12 yards from the perimeter
it's maybe the least property you'd think of entering to take anything in my opinion.
I'll take a pic sometime and show you.

BUT it is in Liverpool.
when I was a kid it was common place for babies to be left in a pram in the front garden, its a sad reflection on the progress we have made as a society.

Listen chaps/esses, Liverpool has a bad name, I really don't know why, I'm 62 yrs of age, one of eight children who grew up in the city centre, two minute walk from Lime St station. I've seen a lot of crime but other places are far worse.

I once passed through Oswestry with some folk, one being a youth worker, we chatted about crime in Liverpool and the YW said, "I'll bet there's more crime per head in Oswestry than in Liverpool" and I reckon he's right.

Look at the stats, where's my city, Liverpool?

British Red will be along very soon to articulate my views... <grin>

Yep

The fact that they are stealing from a person who is clearly caring for an infant means that they are sadly misunderstood.

Their aversion to a pram is probably because they were traumatised by a Silver Cross in their childhood. Perhaps a repressed memory. What we should do is divert money from healthcare, education for the law abiding and pensions and give them a nice job at the states expense..and perhaps a nice outward bounds holiday?

It cannot be that they are thieving little no marks that deserve a thump after all - what they really need is a nice reward rather than a punishment

Or five minutes with a knotted ploughline :D

Post written and rewritten multiple times and finally deleted as it would probably get me banned.

Opal- as remote as it seems for what's it's worth you have my sympathy and my dearest wishes that you 'bump' into those responsible.

British Red- We really must meet up some day, i feel we would get on well over a campfire and bottle of single malt!
