Put me down as received Sandbag - great job, thanks for all your hard work :)

Not that I've gotten to play with it yet - but I can see it in my neighbour's porch as they took it in from the postie (and of course my neighbour is out at the moment!)

Down the woods tomorrow for a trial run if there's a break in the relentless wet. Don't fancy learning the ropes in a downpour.

I need some advice though, especially with the tarp. It has no ridgeline loops like my basha so is the rope supposed to run under the fly? Also, mine has black bits of tough, plasticky material sewn in with splits in the material, any idea what these are for? My best guess is this is the point at which the ridge line is supposed to enter, run underneath the tarp and exit out the other end. In which case, it's going to be tricky to tighten the fly.

Otherwise, the tarp can only be rigged diamond stylee?

As for the double layer, I'm seeing the problem that a thermarest may pose and there being no velcro to seal the mouth. As my hand stitching is less than neat, I'm thinking of using a loop and toggle affair at four points, my reasoning being it less surface area to stitch and can be replaced when worn quicker than unpicking the stitching on a length of velcro. Does this sound ok?

Neighbour got back home, so I have my stuff now (also included a frost crook knife I ordered..) :D :red:

Unpacked it to see if I could repack it successfully, but ran out of room to have a proper look - will probably have to wait until the weekend, when I'm hoping to give it a trial run (even if not actually sleep out in it..)

The tarp feels a lot heavier compared to the hammock than I thought it would, which I guess bodes well for it's toughness.. :)

Don't know if it's of help but when I set mine up on Saturday, I ran the ridge line between two trees, then draped the tarp over it. I then tied two prussics to those black attachment points, then to the ridgeline and pulled then tight to make the tarp taut. This done I tied off the corners to nearby trees.

I think I'll get some mini-crabs and put them through the black split webbing for convenience.

Thanks Andy, do they seem strong enough?

To me it seems a little bit strange to not have loops there also and one in the middle, it would make the tarp much more versatile I think, the material looks quality, I'm just not convinced about the black slit things. I might stitch loops there instead perhaps.

EDIT- A simple loop formed from 10mm paracord, with the centre removed can be threaded through the slit. The large knot formed won't pass through the slit and the ridgline should be able to run above the tarp (should you wish) or below as well as enabling the short, tarp tensioning prussic lengths to be fixed to the 'sacrificial' paracord loops, rather than the tough black material.

This could be improved by using a wide toggle to help spread the load, rather than the bunched knot.

Yeah, that's what I've done on my DD 3x2, had it out in gale force wind and only lost one attachment, from the middle of one long edge - the 3x2 has more attachment points than the 3x3. Even then it was the stitching that gave not the webbing.

Now there's an idea! Why didn't I think of that? !? I'd much prefer toggles over velcro ...... velcro always gets filled with gubins and eventually stops working. Toggles would be far more practical ........ now ...... where do you buy toggles from ..... suppose I could always make my own :D .

Try putting the thermarest inside the sleeping bag. Just a thought.
