I have my doubts that a shotgun would take out a fast FPV drone unless you were a very good shot with good reflexes. A small drone can hit around 80mph. If it was coming straight at you, you've got a couple of seconds to notice it, prep, aim and take it out. Obviously, if you knew there were drones about, that would help. Above a couple of hundred feet, you can barely hear them. If it was to dive at you, again, you only have less than a couple of seconds to acquire and engage.

A drone unloaded yes, one loaded with a 1kg+ warhead (which is what they tend to carry, just the front of an RPG round with a contact fuze) cannot go that fast and would likely struggle to hit 40-50mph. C4 is too high tech and needs proper blasting caps and an ignition mechanism; they just duct-tape a round under the drone. And the drones designed to fly in a stable way and hover can generally not dive very well, but they rather spiral down or perform a shallow approach. Or -and this one is a ******* to defend against- they drop their load from straight above you and with usually lethal precision.

Skeet flies at 60+mph, and some of the boys shooting clays struggle to miss more than 1-2 per session. There's actually a few youtube videos of the world clays champion having fun with drones. Absolutely zero chance anything would go past him, taking out even multiple drones. Admittedly, he was seriously sweaty and said it was 'very exciting' which -coming from a Finn- probably means 'I was about to have a heart attack'

Maybe there should be incentives to get folks to take up clay pigeon shooting. As that is perhaps the only thing anywhere useful......

Would be useful if they could train on clays that are coming towards you in an erratic evasive fashion through obstacles with no clear idea of the direction they are travelling in as opposed to nice low to high , left-to-right , right-to-left , down range apogee.

This has been very informative. I've probably learnt more about drone warfare from this thread in the past 24 hours than I have from all the other media put together since the Ukraine war started.
