Originally they´re meant for protection agains radiation and chemical warfare, that´s why the face hole looks like that; for the wearer to wear a gasmask.
But of course work as rainponcho, too. I have two of them.
First impressions:
The material is thicker than I thought it was going to be, nice surprise, I was worried it would be lightweight not very durable, it's not.
I was in two minds over what size as 95% of the time I walk solo so a 2 made more sense but then on the other hand I want it to be usable in the event I come across others in need of shelter whilst in the hills, so I went for the 4. I've only had it setup in my living room but I am certain that it is easily manageable by a single person. For 2 people I would definitely go for the 4! It's really not as big as I was expecting, a 2 will be tiny, also a 4 is big enough to be able to be erected over a casualty laying down if needed.
I was very surprised with how quickly the temperature started rising inside the bothy. It felt like someone had turned on the central heating!
I might be out walking on Saturday with my son, if the weather is not bad, and I will try it out outside and report back!
I've been scouring eBay and Vinted for bargain fleeces and picked up this Karrimor K2 pile fleece for about £12 posted. It's over 20 years old and the guy who I bought it from said he has only worn it a few times and if I picked this up in a shop I would believe it was brand new.
Great find! Was under the impression Vinted was only for womens clothing, obviously I was wrong and will have to check it out!
Tons of stuff there now. They have it well set-up for both buyers and sellers.
(They even have tents!)

Just be warned, it can get addicting trying to find bargains. I also bought an L.L.Bean made in USA Polartec hooded fleece. This one will be for proper use out walking or dogsbodying etc. The Karrimor I bought for general wearing/keeping nice. I'm really looking forward to getting this L.L.Bean.
Between this and your backpacks, I really admire how committed you are to never being one of the people that Mountain Rescue cannot locate.
You wouldn't believe it, I've had people in Facebook groups before, comment on my photo that my backpack is too bright/'hardly blending in with my surroundings'!
It’s a good way of seeing who doesn’t know what they’re talking about!
Got one of these on my side gate, works very well and only had a problem with rainwater freezing underneath the black metal retaining "straps" - occasional WD40 squirts fixes this. If fitting from scratch I might put a slight slope on it to help rain run-off, but it might make it worse!
M42 to Canon EF adapters, macro bellows, ham, cheese, bread, chocolate, pickled gherkins and a couple of magazines.
That's handy to know if I use one outside. Luckily the one I got will be on the inside of my workshop door so I shouldn't freeze up.
