Oh yes. Same here. Spawks are amazing. I‘ve spent hours watching them. When I get the chance, as they are like ghosts. I’ve had one take a blue tit literally a foot over my head once. Wonderful birds.
I'm going to get a good taxiderm of a musket male sparrowhawk at some point ,id love take up falcony but haven't got much time

Whereas I agree that sparrow hawks are amazing and I love them, Goshawks are without doubt (in my opinion) a step up.
However, the bird I want to come back as is a Raven. It used to be a buzzard so I could soar above teh valleys, but they're pretty stupid and Ravens seem to have more fun flying.

The white morphs of buzzards are beautifull I also love tawny owls,there's a hawk in America called a co opers hawk that has exact same colours as our musket except it's huge in comparison awesome bird

I can't say I have a favourite bird, I appreciate most of them when I see them. The humble wren for example, always amazed such a small bird can sing such a tune so loudly. Recently we've had a few swallow fledglings on the wire right outside our kitchen window and they're great to watch. The clouds of chattering gold finches about the place at this time of year are also great.
I do currently have a soft spot for a pheasant hen wandering around the garden raising her four chicks. A very diligent lady.

Goshawks are a very very very close second. Ravens too. You have taste Mr Broch.

You're right; they're all a delight (although I can't agree with pheasant in general though understand you're appreciation of individuals)
But then, a dunnock when you look at it through bins has fantastic turtle shell patterning on it's back; jays and green woodpeckers look like they belong in a different country, yellow hammers shine out in the snow like yellow LED lights - the list just goes on

But my personal favourite is the Barn Owl, there just magic things I think.

Can't say I bave a favourite bird but a few ones I really like are as follows.
In no particular order...
Dippers, I just like seeing them in and out of the water looking for aquatic insects and the like.
Skylarks, its the song as they climb into the sky. They were pretty common round the area I lived in as a kid and remind me of my childhood.
Curlews, same as the Skylarks and I heard them a lot when I was a kid.
Kingfishers, I've only ever seen four of them but each time has been special. First time one landed on a branch above a river and another landed on the branch beside it and promptly mated with it.
They just this morning when walking the dog by the river I saw another two and in about a hundred metres spotted a dipper also. Yay.
Same stretch of river has a Heron on it sometimes as well.
Oh and Cormorants, proper weird looking dinosaur type things.
I'm not very good at this choosing which I like best am I?

When I moved to Melbourne to do post-grad, there really aren't all that many visual clues to distinguish the place from Southern California. Until you see the birds.
Green Grass Parrots, Crimson Rosellas, Galah, Sulfur Crested Cockatoos and those blinding bits of color by the hundreds, the Rainbow Lorikeets.
In my village? Probably the male Rufous Humming birds. Iridescent feathering.

Cormorant: It can fly, dive and walk. My dive instructor when I was 16 had a close relationship with a cormorant which use to follow the dive boat to share the fish he caught while we dived. It also used to visit him at home and share fish. It fascinated me then and cormorants still.
It will also completely ruin fisheries before moving on to the next one..... They are protected but should be shot on sight.
That’s why they are protected.
We would have no flora and fauna left if everything was shot!
