I'm in the design phase of trying to design an outdoor roofed kitchen/cooking/ prep area.

In order of desire for inclusion of what you'd include what would your list look like? There is Water, Gas and Electricity on location.

For an idea about me I'm quite a keen forager and I'm not unknow to bring Roadkill back. I'm also ( possibly ) a bit of a pretentious foodie wannabe - so will be happy to experiment with eclectic and varied cooking/preservation methods - smoking , cheeses & meets etc. Also some possible alcohol creation if I can get my head around it.

So what would be on your list in order of desire ?

Just my Example

1) Sink with Running water
2) Large Prep Area.
3)

etc

( Its quite a LARGE area I have to play & Design with. )

Ideally, this would NOT include fossil fuel powered electricity or gas.

I understand your comment but please remember that in the UK its a different situation to the Outback - Yes I can and do intend to cook if possible on/with Wood but you have a natural abundance at your finger tips and surrounding your homestead.

I'd be going for a clay or brick built wood oven for bread and pizza, roasting meat and veg etc. You can use charcoal with this too so it's quite a versatile thing to have.
I'd also have a stand/table for Dutch oven cooking with charcoal, saves all the bending down! I've seen them on a few u.s. yt videos.

Having a plentiful supply of wood I would have a stove of some sort where the embers can be spread out to cook over. Sort of bread oven meets BBQ. I'd also like to have some method of smoking food.

If the area is going to be covered then I'd have some hooks and racks for drying some of the fruit and veg we grow (onions, garlic, beans etc).

I'd like to suggest a decent wooden bench but if I'm going to be cooking and preserving then an easily cleanable table than can be folded away inside would be best otherwise all the wild life would leave it too dirty.

I'm mulling over the idea of a large stainless steel kelly kettle as we have a large amount of twiggy brash about the place but I'm not sure it would get enough use at the moment. Could be worth it if I start home brewing much again. (Hops and barley coming on nicely in the garden this year...)

A big double sink.
Good scrubbable workspace, especially if you're likely to prep and cook both meat (roadkill) and veg/salads.

Safe flooring of some kind, not slippy, not muddy, not hollowed and rutted with foot traffic.

Wind up spit above a clay based charcoal hearth area.

A cold stone cupboard with marble or slate shelves for food, cheese, butter, oil, or wine storage.
Stone crocks with slate lids for nuts, garlic, etc.,
If you're outdoors, then rodents become something you need to be aware of.

I'm with Woody Girl on the clay oven too :)

Sounds like fun a kitchen like this :D

If you have electricity on site though, I want a halogen hob and a microwave and a decent grill.

If you're having a kind of 'off grid' style kitchen though, then a woodburning stove while lovely in Winter is a misery to work over or near in Summer.

This sounds like a great project. I'd love an outdoor kitchen but my garden doesn't realy have a useable area to put one in. Everything is on a slope.
Make sure we get photos of the finished project so I can drool over it :)

Going to be some time in the making I'm afraid.
