Been trying to find out some information about the knife/chooper that I have just refurbed....

Looks like it may have been a root crop topping knife....used to cut the leaves off root crops in the field.. found a maker in Sheffield Called Fred Mountford.. from the Sheffield Indexes..

"Mountford, Fred. (, plane irons, scythes, hay, chaff, straw, tobacco & paper knives manftrs.).
Residing at Wellfield Works Parkhead, Sheffield in 1905.
Recorded in: White's Directory of Sheffield & Rotherham."

Got to find out more now... :)

Just got back from a day doing field archery with Chris... shame you could not make it Steve hope you feel better soon.., Still did not find my lost arrow lol,

We shot about 15 Targets through out the day stopping about 13:00 for a cuppa, Chris was getting some good grouping, and his bow shot well :), and the Cheap set of arrows he used did a good job, the pile's on them surprised me for being thin crimp on's they were thin and did deform, but still did the job...well worth it for a shoot about and light use.... dont know how they would last with continuous pounding from a heavier bow..

I had three Piles come off, which will need gluing back on, but hey ho.... more repairs...

at one point we saw family start to walk in to the area... a quick shout of "Archery in Progress" and they went back to the ride.... funny how some don't see the Caution Archery signs that are the same size and layout of the triangle Road signs... but at least we saw them and warned them.

A great day spent in the woods, thanks for the company Chris... hope we get out again soon... :)

A great day out in the woods.Really pleased with how my bow was shooting, shame I can't match it's potential, but it's early days. I definitely saw an improvement as the day went on with the grouping tightening up and going straight, and not to the left quite Iimpressed by how well my arrows worked considering that they were only cheap, might have to replace the points though. What was impressive was how well Stu's arrow was working with out a point Definitely got to get some more arrows though 6 isn't enough, even w,orse when you break one.

It was good to see it improve.. unlike my shooting, lol

Well I had a nice morning at remembrance in Colchester, nice to see some faces from the past. Managed a rendition of the national anthem not sure Simon Cowell would have liked it..

Would anyone be interested in the 24Hr Ration Challenge that Ivan is Running... but do it in Suffolk Group :),

http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114797

But... with a kit list such as

Ruck Sack
Sleeping bag
Tarp
Roll Mat
Meths/Hexi Burner
Mess tins
Knife, Fork, Spoon set

Hygiene Kit
Knife/Axe/Saw
First Aid kit with Meds..

Water
British 24hr Ration Pack.. NOWT else

Time Frame.. Meet at the Compasses midday Friday, then walk to a woodland, and camp till Sunday midday.. back to cars...

:).. who fancy's it next year as a Add on meet... or we can do it as a wild meet say Rendelsham.. and go wild :)

That sounds great! Don't know if our gang will cope with your minimal kit list, still the challenge of the weigh in, small fun prize for the lightest and the mile walk! (Not too taxing) Should make most of them give their list a little thought, but seeing as i am chief rule maker,i might just nick your list, but allow the hammock boys that luxury, and we will have a central fire.

Good luck with yours.

After talking to Stu yesterday , I think that one of the first group purchases should be a group first aid kit, which would be kept in the shed. Also does anyone have any first aid qualifications, as this might be worth looking in to.

I was EMT trained up until about 10 years ago... I haven't done even a refresher course since.

I will (early next year) be doing a full course with St. John's Ambulance... at which point I'll be recertified.

No problem with nicking my list, lol I Just like the concept you worked out, just thought I would give the guys... let alone me, a bit of a challenge....

Hope yours goes well, look forward to seeing the results...

I am looking to run the Suffolk one end of March that gives the guys and me time to get used to the walks... :).
