Well, just been pondering about Axes, and knives... I nearly finished my file knife.. been a long time coming , but more in keeping then the trusty Clipper so will have to get it finished and make a sheath, been fancying a Svord Peasent Knife for a while so will prob jump in with one of them..

Then to the Axe.. keep thinking about a Tomahawk... not my choice for chopping , but always fancyed a thrower.. so may well jump and get one.. now I got two uses for one, and not just cucking about.. leaning more to the Coldsteel Trail at the mo....

sharps wise whilst possibly not the most in keeping i went/go for
-gransfors bruks outdoor axe in honesty this is my go to axe for 99% of all trips apart from winter
-my reindeer pukko
- a svord peasant rehandled by Albus

i cant justify buying more sharps at the moment so i have to raid my kit stores
from what i have read longhunters carried a butcher knife on their belt, a patch knife for cutting their patches for their black powder rifles, occasionally a lock knife or folder and of course a hatchet /tomahawk.

no mention of saws but i am tempted to put my opinel folder in when i do my own boone trips and if i am brave/daft enough to do a boone trip in winter i think i would was a buck saw just because of amount of wood i reckon i need for over night using just blankets

look forward to seeing photos Stu

I will bring my cold steel hawk along mext meet, and my new knife.

I am going to order mine tomorrow I think.. may get a small 1ltr Dutch oven as well, I want one any way.. :), but that may have to wait....

new toys toy many wants.lol

Yeah I keep thinking what to take sharps wise, the saw for me is out.. I like my silky but hey, would rather use as much as I can like they did...

all of my axes I have got for a pound or two, then refurbished them , so have not spent much there,

I got a couple more wool blankets, but dont know what would happen in the winter, lol...

Ah, you guys are really making me jealous.:) I wish I had enough time to make an old time kit, between now and then. I'm afraid I'll have to use modern equivalents that I already have. Still looking forward to it though.

thought I'd add this one to your list

Blimey!! Just looked at this site. £39.99 for a civil war camp stool.

Nice one Colin.... thats what I thought when I saw some of the prices....

Dont worry about not making all the kit the idea is to use what you can to get as close as you can, I must say still using a hammock is a bit too far away from it :)

Yeah it was a toss up between that and the trail, I am striping the paint off the one I get.. I dont like it either... I see they got a trade hawk as well for £15... I wonder what thats like.....

I looked at trade hawk but its a pipe hawk and that I'm not sure about. Seems like a lot of weakening to me.

Interested to see how you get on with the cold steel one as that was my original choice too.
