Been looking at Drink for the mountain man, not spent any time really on things like alcohol, just on tea and coffee, there seems to be mainly a tendency to lean towards coffee, manly carried as green beans, and roasted as required, it would have been brewed in a pot of some description, and not in a peculator as they were not patented in America until just after 1860.

Tea was very expensive and a luxury at the beginning of the 1700's but towards the end of the 1700's was common place, and used as a regular drink, so it would have be likely that Mountain men did drink tea as well as coffee..until a tax was imposed on tea, then tea was a smuggled commodity, some started to drink Herbal alternatives.

Beef tea was also being drunk, in a way a real Bovril.. :), and a commercial made beef extract was available from mid to late 1800's
