Mother: Niels, be careful you don't cut yourself!
Me: Don't be ridiculous. I've not cut myself in years.

20 minutes later: slash! My first 3 stitches.

Doctor: Was the knife clean?
Me: Yes, I've only carved wood with it and cleaned fish and game.
Doctor: ?!:yuck:

In other words I just got my first tetanus shot too. :)

There are only 2 types of Bushcrafters, those who have cut themselves and those that are going to cut themselves, welcome to the gang, heal well.

Oh yes, most of us have sufferd the "of course I will be careful" curse.

plenty of bed rest and pampering from your loving partner and you should be back on your feet soon :-D

I don't have a partner mate. And I'm still on my feet! Just the typing that's difficult now;)

Glad that it's mendable without any bother; tetanus jabs are a right royal pain :sigh:
Good clean cut though :) You have obviously kept your knife in good order :approve:

If you don't mind I'll add your 'war wound' to, 'The object lessons....do not do this to yourself', thread' in Full Members ?

That's ok Mary. That reminds me I still haven't become a full member yet. Will do that soon.
Of course it's in fair game. I was fair game of my knife!

It's the bushcraft version of the Door Supervisor's Golden Rule but instead of "Never say 'It's Quiet'" you have; Never say 'I've never cut myself'"

:lmao:

Done the same thing today with a spoon knife making a bad practice slicing cut, fixed it up myself as not too deep, glad it wasn't as deep as yours. Heal quickly mate.

Thanks for the concern everyone. I was trying to liberate this bear from that unidentified stick I had. (I changed my mind from the woodspirit as I don't have the chisels and stuff.)

Anyhow, what went wrong was the following, as I was carving out the mouth, rather than pushing the blade in with my thumb, I simply held it in forhand grip and sliced forward towards my left hand holding the piece, the knife slipped of and, well OP really...

Won't be carving for a little while now I'm afraid:(
