That's what I was thinking. A great Idea for a permanent shelter, if we could get permission.:bigok:

That is what I was thinking, may be this meet coming we will look round for some fallen wood and start to collect, that long bit that is near the fire should be a start, even if we split it... and thinking about it my tarp would prob fit it as a roof, during the winter we just add tarp walls :)

I am going to print it off and show the land owner se what he says...

Would this be any good for the tarp on the roof? looks like decent value -

I dont think that that will be big enough, its only about 2m wide ish

That A frame looks amazing ! If I could get down on rest days would love to help make something like that:)

its the sort of thing I think the group will be doing, during the meets, so when you can make it you'll be welcome

Looking forward to making it one day when one of the meets fit on my weekends off( only get 2 out of 5) - seem to recall you posting Augusts and September's dates and they were doable.
I've always loved the parachute group shelters - used them in the army but that A frame looks awesome

2 Night Monthly Suffolk Bushcraft Group Meeting 5th and 6th July 2013

All Welcome, Newbies, all levels of experience, Tree and Ground Dwellers.

Location
A 10 Acre mixed Woodland that is very quiet and secluded, and lends itself to wild camping, both in Hammocks and Tents, just outside of the village of Stansfield,

Regulars that have been to the Site before - 12:00 onwards - report before going to the woods.
New commers to Site - Meet at Compasses Pub, Stansfield, Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 8LN. 14:00 hrs, normally finishing about midday on the Sunday. Please be on time as the Woodland is hard to find.

Cost
The Camp Site charge is £10 per person for the Weekend, fees for the site to be paid to me (Big Stu) as you arrive, this will have to be in cash.

Under 18s
Are welcome to attend, they are the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian that they came to the meet with.

Behaviour
Our meets, are good natured and light hearted, with safety in mind, we aim to carry this on with self regulation, if it does not then the offending person will be asked to leave immediately.

Facilities
This is a very wild site...The nearest Toilets, Shower are back at the Bayments Farm Yard, the nearest Tap is about a 600m from the Woodland.

Personal Hygiene - there is NO toilets in the woodland, apart from the ones at the Farm, please bring your Hygiene kits, there is a Group Latrine that is to be used in all cases, it is a requirement of the Landowner.

There is a lean to one man natural shelter that can be used, if you would like to use it for a night, that would be on a first come, first serve basis, it may need re-roofing prior to use. There is also a Shave horse for use as well that was made as a group project.

Housekeeping
There is no Facility to leave rubbish on site or at the farm, please bring a Rubbish Bag for your waste and take it home; we have had occasions were other peoples pitches have been cleaned up by others, You Carry In – You Carry Out.

Fire Places and Fire scar’s to be kept to a minimum, this will depend on activities, if you make a Fire Scar for any reason, other than communal one, then it is your responsibility to clean it up, The Main communal Fire is Everyone’s responsibility to clean up after.

Vehicles and Access and Parking to site
Due to the amount of cars and access being required by the landowner, cars can go to the woodland to drop off and pick up kit, then back to parking area for the duration of the stay, the Car Parking for the woodland will be about 800m away from the woodland in the Land owners Yard, please do not block Gates and Barn doorways,

If the ground is too wet then, most of the gear will have to walked in, I can arrange for help for people that cannot walk that far due to a health reason, I need to know this in advance.

Group Meal,
The Group meal will be provided by Simon, Thank you for the offer of that Simon, please can you start a group meal list.

(The Group meals are supplied but the person making them, then the cost is divided between the participants, please remember Cash is required) Last couple have been a Curry by Kirkland, and a Spit Roast by Paul, thank you both.

In case of Unforseen events that may cause there to be no group meal, please allow in your catering for that emmergency meal.

Air Guns
From this meeting as a Bonus for the Regular Attendees to Meets will be able to use Air Guns (Non FAC - under 12flb only) for Target use only in a designated area, they will be subject to Chronograph before use by the Range Control Officer, (this will be Carl), and any decision on the use of Air Guns and Range that he makes will be final, and has the right to refuse the use of the gun or any person using a gun.

Please inform myself or Carl (mitch66) if you intend on bringing an Air Gun prior to arrival.

Yeah Parachutes are good shelters, one thing I thought about this one its a nice project, and can be closed in with Tarps in the winter all round if required, maybe even be a group over night shelter if needed in Very adverse weather :)

Also put a bit of a perm stamp on the site...

I've started to put future date at bottom of the Monthly meeting details :)

Yeah that would be good, I have tied Tonys Hawk for chopping but did not like it at all, it did not seem right for some reason, and in a way was more work to cut/split anything, that may well just be my method, and I just need the practice.

One thing I think may be a good Idea after the last meet is running a Axe/sharps safety, care and use sessions, after a couple of moments at the last meeting..... that I witnessed, one being a miss use and lack of care, and one that was all so a miss use that could lead to an injury..

From what I have read the Hawk is not a chopper of wood but as a Tomahawk designed as a weapon.

You may well be right there, but some seem to like them for a replacement of an axe.. think mainly cause of looks..?? I find the round Handle not qiuite right to hold and the ones I ve used are to light to do much.. I was being polite about the method thing..... and not trying to open a can or worms of an argument on line whether an axe or tomahawk....

Hi All, i thought we were going to make a table for food prep and a crapper seat first

Yeah, I was just thinking ahead..... its good to see how we as a group want to evolve the site :)

Table was next on the list as we said, as well as a po seat... :),

I was just wondering about a walk around to have a look to see what wood we have.. :). and also preparing the info for the Landowner, and also who like the Idea of it.. I am seeing the Landowner at the end of the next meet so would like to say to him this is what we would like :)... fingers crossed.
