Hi,
Just a quick message to ask if anyone is undertaking bushcraft weekend events for those of us who are physically disadvantaged. I have a serious back complaint but used to love going out into the woods when I was younger and now I just want to have a go again. I buy bits of kit, just in case, but I cannot pitch a tent or tie strong knots etc as my condition also affects my hands. But I would love to camp out bushcraft style, or even under the stars.
Does anyone know if such places exist that allow for people like us who cannot carry heavy stuff or do physical stuff?

Regards to you all.

Yep, here it is here. I too carry a physical disability, I also arrange at least one camp every month. We'll get you out and about fella, keep your eye on the meets section, are you in the north of the country

Having met just some of the characters on here, I can say with my hand on my heart, you've nothing to worry about.

I can guarantee they'll go out of their way to help you any way they can Moorlandhunter.

They're that kind of people.

Liam

As long as you don't make people carry buckets full of bricks for you (then magically recover until it's time to leave again) you'll be fine ;) Are you wheelchair bound or can you walk?

Hello and welcome!
I am sure something can be sorted to help you out and get you out!
I carry various injuries and when my Tennis Elbow was bad I was given all sorts of assistance by various folk - just to ensure I could still enjoy the woods :)
I have run Bushcraft classes for those with Mental Health issues ... so why not for folk with physical health issues :)

Its no problem this, I know just where to go depending on where you are, keep your eye on the meets section, I'll sort something out

Just to clarify here. Most posters have offered to help with your needs. All well and good. But is that what you're asking about? Or are you looking for a site/organization that provides opportunities for training or equipment allowing physically disadvantaged more ability to work aroung said disadvantages to do more for themselves?

Hiya John, how are you. I've not been on this forum for a while but going to be around a lot more from now on. Perhaps we could do something together regarding the above. What do you think.

I've got experience of working with people with physical disabilities, specifically in a "holiday" type situation, I'd be more than willing to lend a hand if anything comes of this.

Cheers,

Stuart

Hi all, i been following this thread to see peoples reaction, and i got to say what a fantastic reponse you all have given, kind of makes me relise what a great bunce of guys you all are,
WELL DONE

Yes I can walk, but not far without lots of pain and but can't climb hills or do hard physical stuff like I used to. I injured my spine which has also affected my hands. I can't walk far, up hills or other things and I rely on heavy duty pain killers to take away the pain. I used to be very active and fit, now a blob, but the thing is I feel like I can do stuff but know I can't and I don't want to go to an event and then appear a moaning minnie, not being able to do all the heavy stuff. Leave me to cook and I'm fine.
In my fitter days I could dress a deer, net and shoot rabbits, paunch and skin them and also shoot a good few geese and duck for the table, but I've had to leave most to that behind me. You see if I go to an event I don't want to be a burden to anyone, although I know need help to do the heavy stuff and I don't want to be viewed as a skivver. Its a man thing I think, but I just want to get out into the woods. MY wife will have to stay in a hotel nearby or not come with me at all as the thought of going all bushcraft fills her with horror.:)
