Steve Mqueen's name in that famous film (name escapes me) where he ate all those hard boiled eggs etc, and because of his stubborness he was always off to the cooler , apologies if offended for some reason you remind me of him...

the longest i have managed under a tarp, moving every day or so has been for 4 weeks, this was with all the kit and food i needed most of the time, but on a very tough physical regime. i did however do it with a team, a very close team as we went through allot of stuff together....

as for on my own, i would be fine after a day or 2, with the loneliness issues, my biggest problems would be finding enough carbs and sugars in the wild here, maybe the jungle would be ok, banana palm hearts etc, more diverse land with more animals to eat, but more pests too.

id love to give it a go and see what happens.....:)

Damp and miserable is just as dangerous as cold and wet. I did 4 days on my own and it got a bit weird and I consider myself sorted in my own head. In the end survivors survive because of goals that involve other people. They want to get back to work, home, partner, children etc. Hilts is of a robust nature but his goal would be 'got to get back to emptying the potty' others would be along similar lines, goal establishment is the prime survival tool, ‘great, I got enough wood in for two days!' etc, etc. So survival is circumstance, are you running away, getting back or hiding from the world? Each one has a different mindset.

So get the mindset and you get survival, personally I would build a shack, with sauna and work on making a still. Oh yes, bring maze to plant is actually simpler to look after than wheat.

Ok then maybe opening up a can of worms here , what about a few of us giving it a go ? decent planning and all that , and without a load of complicated rules etc , you can have whatever you can physically carry into designated camp area one trip in , i could provide the site , bet it all goes a little quiet now ! NOT !

If your hungry and thirsty on a planned trip, your doing it wrong!

I dont plan my trips, planning takes the fun away for me. Anyway plans go all to hell as soon as the first knifes unsheathed.

Too many variables to think a plan will work even plans a, b, c,d may go south.

I like to know what will happen to me physiologically and psychology when i had no water. The answe was not great, even after a day my mind was going a bit loopy but that was summer with a high activity level.

And i still enjoy fasting for 2 or 3 weeks at a time because it feels great! Since i started only eating organic food the effects of not eating disapear after 3 days, when i used to eat normal food it took 8.

Experience has taught me that i feel a hell of a lot betteer not eating at all than eating 1 rabbit a day, my 1 rabbit a day experiment was one of the worst experiences of my life

Yeah a bit of a challenge in itself, don't want to make it a nasty experience , but i know from the past , meets etc , there are always runs back to the car ,shops etc . I was thinking as said one trip in , not exactly open ended but it would make people really think long and hard ,knowing that you can't do those things , a sort of fun last man standing type thing , nothing wrong with , well you take this and i will take that , thats just planning !

Still think it would be a challenge ....

dude that IS camping hiking, I think Meets "can"* give a false sense of what its all about, being able to walk back an forth getting bag after bag, these skills or knowledge are FOR ME an enabler to be able to be somewhere and not have to have the world on my back, I don't go out to make a spoon, I make a spoon to eat my food, I don't collect water to practise processing it, I process it to be able to function as well as I can, the crafts aren't the reason to be there, they allow me to be where ever I want, that's why its such a big subject, there is so much to learn to be able to be comfy where ever YOU want to be, being thirsty IS the result of bad planning, being hungry IS the result of failed effort, these things should never be the reason to be out, BEING OUT SIDE IS THE REASON!

AHHHHHHHH SORRRY! I am heading into the boredom of "What does Bushcraft mean to me" SORRY CHAPS! I AM OFF FOR A COFFEE! STAT!
