Is anyone else with me?

Not only does it clear the woods of all the dog walkers and other pesky humans, I just LOVE watching, listening, feeling it.. Especially when it's absolutely TORRENTIAL. It never ceases to amaze me and make me stop and want to immerse myself in it completely. The wonders of nature.. I mean how much more apparent and in your face does it get, it's such a common thing but still no less amazing. And snow.. don't even get me started.

I'm wondering if I'm alone in this - 99% of the time all people do when it rains is moan and whinge!

I'm with you. Every time it rains everyone describes the weather as miserable, but it is them being miserable, not the rain. I'm finding that i can enjoy myself in almost any weather unless it is severe. it is just about learning to be comfortable with your kit and your clothing and in taking pleasure in what the day provides you with.

There are pros and cons to all weather types. Just find the pros, and you will be happy.

Amen to that! The rain is one of the many things I'd miss if I moved away. I reckon we must have as many words to describe the types of rain as the Inuit have for snow.

We had a great day in the Dales yesterday and only saw four folk on the 14 mile route, the sideways hail at the end was a bit harsh though.

Everything in moderation I say. Had a two day walk in the Lakes earlier in the year. Day 1, sunshine, day 2 rain, rain and more rain. For the first 6 hours it was fine, even fun. But if I didn't have a cosy cottage to look forward to, it would have been a different story. I guess as long as you are prepared for it, it can be fun.

I certainly don't mind it and agree with all those who say they like the solitude it brings, even going to the park with the kids is better in the rain, quieter and the slides are faster!

Lying in the tent deep in the woods a few nights ago, the sound of the rain falling on what is still quite a heavy leaf canopy, was a magical sound.

I liked the delay. Even in the last few days of November there was still enough leaf cover for it to rain for a minute or two before the first drops fell on the tent. So at the start it sounded far far away, good tent and a brew so 100% happy just to lay and listen.:)

i dont like rain, i know how horrible it can be to be completly wet and loose sleep due to wet kit, not good, although i tend to be a bit better at avoiding getting my kit wet these days. its hard to concentrate in rain, and do anything proactive. then again, i like listening to it, and i love thunderstorms.

I love the snow on the ground and falling but I absolutely hate the rain. Th eonly time I enjoyed it was atropical storm in Darwin where the coolness was brillaint but in this country no thanks

I love the smell and sound of a forest in the rain. it seems to bring it even more alive. and after the rain has stop all sorts of little friends come out to play. Also the rain is so satisfying when you are hikinh/running. I dont think there is any better feeling than standing in the rain after a long hard run/hike. My 2 yo also likes puddle jumping (and so do I)

I know exactly what you mean.

I live out on the East coast of Suffolk and over the winter I always make a point of walking some of the coastal path in the worst weather I can find. You can be out for hours without seeing another human; it makes you feel really alive.
