But how do you teach people to drive in the snow when it only snows properly once every twenty years

Having said that I've got a driving lesson today, not shore how its going to go .

Now's the time to ask your instructor then. Make good use of the money they are getting paid.
Mostly it's basics like skid control,tyre pressures,gear usage and correct tyres and use of snow chains. Stuff you need to know the theory of, prior to practicing it ;-)

I was out camping on thursday night in about 1 foot of snow, slept in a shelter, had about 3 hours sleep then my friend wanted to leave as he was freezing, walked the 5 miles home in a surreal half sleep, good experience though, first time getting a fire going in the snow
