xrays of Mora tangs

Just found a thread on British Blades about Mora tang lengths.
I was shocked. Won't be giving mine so much hammer now

The tang is specced to be suitable for the knife a bit of search will show you that the blades break before anything esle gives way.

Hammer em as hard as you like.

I concur with John. I've never had one break and I've abused many of the models they've produced over the years, including all the ones in the X-ray.

i agree with john also its almost impossible under NORMAL use to break one of these bushcraft classics !!!!!!!!

I've only seen it happen once, to a students knife. The tang however remained firmly within the handle material.

I saw that one of Saras' go as well, I was surprised to say the least.

This could have been a through tang, fulltang or any style the blades has snapped.

I believe Dave Budd did quite a comprehensive strength test on various different knife tangs (I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong). I believe he found that the tang made very little difference to the strength of the knife as it was always the blade that snapped, not the tang.

It was one of the 700 series moras so had a 1/4 length tang like the top one in the xray pics. It snapped behind the blade at the tang/blade junction.

What about the tang on this mora, any idea how far the tang goes?

All the way to the end, full length, you should be able to see it fixed in place at the butt end of the handle.

I would agree heres a smaller knife dismantled
the piece to the right of the blade is a spring clip which will be visible usually
