XL Sleeping Bag suggestions

Snugpac are fairly large fitting. I used a softie 12 for 8 years army service and use a SF combined system now and they fit fine. I'm 6ft5" and have a 54" chest.
You can get extra zip in baffle to increase the size if you wan tot have it really baggy.

Get a bag that you like and get extension panels for it. Although it depends on how large we're talking, when it's cold i can fit into a nanok, if it's warm it kills me to be in it, i've bought XXL sleeping bags and all sorts but the one i use more than any other is my old snugpak black on black 2 with extension panels in it.
Some of the military bags are big as well. An alternative is to get one made for you, but that depends on how deep your pockets are.

I did get myself a snugpak zero camo, but thats a really snug fit. I was hoping to get the expanda panel but just got a reply from Snugpak to say it doesn't fit. So might have to give this one to the missus and get another. Its for using ina hammock in UK.

If youre bigger than me then your first port of call is going to be Billy Smarts, after that I have a Coleman large sleeping bag which is great and packs down to the size of a Vauxhall Astra, but it's very warm and cozy. But Ive just got an Outwell, Cloud Square XL from Go Outdoors its the same size as the Coleman (225x100 cm), but it packs down pretty small (for a big bag). It was cheap, its not hugely warm and isnt brilliantly made but thats life!

To be polite I'm tall and fat,6 feet 4 and 20 stone , I have just bought a phantom 400 from highlander and I fit it easily.In the past I have used a snugpak softie9 ,antarctica,and elite 5,all have fitted well and I have always been comfortable.
Thanks guys. It's really tough getting anything to fit the upper body when your a big chap. I'm 5'10 and 19st very broad across the chest and shoulders.
Off topic but its a nightmare getting things like outdoors shirts etc.

Appreciate size issues being big myself (bigger on height and weight than 5'10 and 19st) . I'd heartily recommend Snugpak. I got a Snugpack Antartica RE. By itself it's comfortable, with an extension panel added it's positively roomy.
I think I read on one site that with an expansion panel fitted it's 66 inches at shoulders. I tend to sleep on my side and find the room to move about in the bag without feeling like I'm a chicken wrapped in cling film a great asset.

Oh that looks nicer than mine and it's a bit bigger, I'd be interested to know how you get on with it if you go for it - as for the Sticky LMAO!

I like the look of the Selk bags, slightly wacky looking but a logical idea.
I think they are heavier and bulkier than a normal doss-bag, but look quite 'roomy' and you shouldn't get that wrapped-up feeling as it is an insulated suit with arms and legs rather then a bag.
Anyone tried one?

I get the feeling that a lot of you seem to expect to move around in your dossbags.Mummy type sleeping bags are not designed for this,they are designed so that when you turn over the whole bag turns with you,this is the reasoning behind the shape.A square dossbag is ideal for turning in but then you have the extra bulk and weight,this is removed with a mummy bag.It does take some getting used to but once you have you'll possibly find you sleep better in a mummy bag if you turn with the bag rather than in the bag.

My winter mountaineering bag is a Mountain Hardwear down bag that features a built in extension panel that can be unzipped to provide more room width wise.

Opps can't find the Nanok link at the moment, anyway they both do "extenders" for their bags. It's an insulated piece that has zips on the two long sides that zip into their bages so that proper sized folk don't have their circulation cut off. Not too pricey and can be used as a blancket for yer pet snake.

Try "Completeoutdoors" they do an extra wide 3 season square bag for about £30 and if you pick up a cheap fleece square sleeping bag for about a fiver it should cover for a good part of the year. For the winter the Snugpak Antartica RE I can heartily recommend with an expanda panel, very warm very roomy but a wee bit bigger than a standard bag however well worth the money in my opinion.
A couple of years ago i brought a US Army Goretex Sleeping Bag Modular ECWS EUC System & all i can say is that i have never looked back ,both bags are very roomy and well put together although the system is a bit heavie at 9lbs . I think the outer Gortex skin is one of the best bivvy bags going for the price which i paid 125 quid off of fleabay.
