Words fail me

  • Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
I believe it says in the bible somewhere an eye for an eye.

That only applied to humans. However, there were laws on cruelty to animals. You see what happens when children are given a "time out" instead of a good spanking. ;) All you get is a bunch of juvenial delinquents. The Bible also says "spare the rod and spoil the child" makes you think.

Someone I went to university with said that when she was in school (early 90s) some boy strangled a cat with its own tail, then thought it was cool to brag about it at school. She said he all but got the $h!t kicked out of him.... :BlueTeamE

Nothing like some positive peer group pressure.

If I had even nicked a bubblegum when I was young, I would have got a smack from the shopkeeper, probably another one from a cop and a beating from my father!!!!
Now???? someone would tutut a me and tell me what a naughty boy I am. And I would probably get legal aid to sue them  Justice and common sense??? what's that and where have they gone....:(

I can quite easily tell the Police what their motivation is. I have a number of students whose sole and only desire is to put others down or make them uncomfortable. They punch smaller children as they walk past and laugh to their mates, they will kick a hole in the door as they pass 'because they can'.

Their tiny little brains will not process the fact that their are consequences because the education system tells them they are special and have the right to express themselves however they desire. Whoever did this has lost NO sleep.

There is a small rotten core amongst our teens and it really and truly frightens me - especially that the authority seems unwilling, or unable to deal with this kind of mindless thug. I see each day that this tiny minority have such a detremental effect on the pleasant masses. Time for a career change I feel. :offtopic:

Sorry, but I felt this tied in tenuously. Can we use those rubber bands they use on little boy lambs? Seems a fitting punishment and a solution to further problems! :tapedshut

Not sure this sort of thing can be blamed on school and punishment system. It just that in my experience, such events in the past where dealt quietly within school and police, hardly making local papers let alone national press.

My primary school during the 70's when corporal punishment was still readily practised was broken into, the rabbit, guinea pigs and tortoise slaughtered and fish tank smashed. A 9 (?) year old pupil that lived near the school was found to be one of the culprits.

Another pupil in my secondary school was finally caught carrying a loaded 9mm colt pistol in his school bag. Another brought in a handgrenade and rolled it toward the teacher (with pin in) during lesson as a joke. These events didn't even get outside school, today that would be national press and very big deal.

Here Here :You_Rock_ and therein lies the problem with our rapidly failing education/law systems, PC Britain has seen fit to remove all power from teachers, village bobby and the like and we are now starting to see the fruits of that disasterous piece of legislative cobblers!

What is wrong with some people. Is it too much of :twak: this and too little of :argue: this or the other way round. Is it that that some children don't get the 'pick on people your own size' morality lesson and get off picking on smaller kids 'coz itz fun' . All I know is when I worked in the prison system is that pond scum comes layers. The offenders that went for the weakest of victims, animals, children, old people, were by far the most thoroughly inadequite excuses for human being I have ever met. Child abusers whinge their innocense constantly in a really caracteristic way which makes you feel nearly obiliged to assault them. For some reason they nearly always started on animals first. This type of offence is really typical esspeically as it was around a school.

Fair enough madrussian. I'm not to up on my bible knowledge, but I still think they should get the same whoever did it :bluThinki or maybe stake them out in the desert sun for a couple of days, or the pillory, stocks, concrete boots et,etc :) and take a few moments to explain to them the error of their ways :nono: :twak:

My partner went to school there. This is a disgusting act :( but I'm not going to give it full rant, I do that far too often. Lets just say I agree with many and varied punishments for them.

Hey, I'm all for caning like some of the Asian nations do. I think standing in public getting your backside whipped with a bamboo cane soaked in brine would make anyone think twice before doing something like that. :D

It is not only the young ones, this has been going on a long time, many feel a need to express their own version of "nobless oblige". They are protected by their social status, friends in high places and such, we see this mentality of entitlement all the time so why would the next generation not express themselves the same way?
It (justice) has to applied across the board or not at all.
I do act, when confronted, actually only a few weeks ago, to their chagrin..I like to sleep at night.

Those that do it to show off to their mates I am less worried about, they are just ignorant bullies and sooner or later they will get their comupence.

No, the ones that really worry me are the ones who do things like this alone and for their own personal gratification......they are the ones that will make headlines in years to come :(

Sad little world we're living in sometimes isn't it

Bam.

I agree - scum like these deserve a strict punishment that befits the crime and it should be made public.

But, and to give this thread a bit of balance, not all kids are bad!

One of my Scouts told me at Christmas that every year he gives up one of his presents to give to a local charity for under privileged kids. When he told me I felt like crying! Sure his parents make him do it, but the particular lad actually does it willingly and understands the reason behind it. Not surprisingly he's one of the nicest kids I've ever met.

As saffy indicated this stuff has been going on for years. It's not right and I deplore it. I think the problem is we now have so many 'news' outlets (24 hour TV channels, internet, newspapers etc) that the editors struggle to find enough stories to fill the time or pages - consequently stories like this make the news more often!

Just my tuppence!

Mat

Theres been a lot of what should be done...but what do you do to remedy the problem?
Are we just a society of observers?
It won't get better unless we all get involved.

That's disgusting. I'll never understand anyone who can do that. I could go on a huge rant but I dont think I could say anything that hasn't already been said. There's not enough consequences for actions these days.

Wolves. :(

Obviously never heard of the work of Alice Miller then...

Do you really believe that all cruel or bad people are victims of some sort of child abuse ? Some people are just downright evil pure and simple there dosn't always have to be a reason behind it. I expect you believe in all those conspiracy theories , like Phil had Di murdered and it wasn't an accident at all etc.
Due to you and others of late I'm not going to be contributing anymore on here there's too much nonsense and rubbish being written.
I'll probably pop in for a read every now and again.

.............and yes, you're absolutely correct. I've never heard of the work of Alice Miller.
