Gaelic speaking neighbour reckons sassanach (other spellings are available :) ) originally meant non-Gaelic speaker, many of those using the word are one themselves!
A few who moved here are definitely trying to "improve" things and have a big target on their back. Much could be done better, but the issue is often control and what goes with it.

Eastwards!
Why settle? Live a decadent water-borne life on the European waterways.
Countryside living, rabbits stacked in tall hutches and then the wonderful old quayside towns or tributaries of the River Saone. Tournous for the poultry sales. So very French. Amsterdam life is interesting. Cross The Channel and up to London Town on The London River.
Move Northwards in summer and Southwards in Winter into The Camargue.
Friends and family can be fired like arrows to where you are cruising by Eurostar or car/motorbike.
