You know the scary thing ?
My Uncle's 90, and he's saying the same thing :yikes:
Kind of makes you realise that we're not half way done yet :D

cheers,
Mary

This thread made me laugh!
I am 52 (but at the moment feel 92!!). Thinking back yes my youth was wasted not doing the things I wanted to do. Now My back wont allow it! lol (not without a LOT of oramorph or similar).
ButThese days I appreciate things a lot more. I would love to live until I am in my 90's or even top the ton (with reasonable health), but all the men in my family die at around 79 and have done for generations. So I reakon I have around 25 years left to me.
I am damn sure I intend to make the most of them!
Alan (who has recently switched form morphines to opium derivitive for the pain).

In the woods if possible.
You've mostly heard this one before, I'm sorry, but even now I'm in my sixtieth year I still feel like a teenager.

There just never seems to be a spare one when you want one. :evilangel:

Allright then ! I have just had my 49th birthday , in the woods at a meet ( best birthday ever ! ) I first realized i coudn't do all the things i wanted to at 45 and over the last 4 years the realisation has slightly increased , that it ain't as easy as it used to be , but in saying that "mans gotta know his limitations"

My old man used to say " If you've got your health son , you have everything " And he was right , i made a resolution to myself on my 40th birthday , that every year without fail , i would , jump off the Avon Dam, swim in the Erme estuary , jump from a tree into the Avon, and jump from a tree swing , i put up , many years ago ,along a stretch of river near Chagford . I have managed it every year so far , and the day i can't ( not can't be bothered )I know i am getting old .

My back aches when i sleep in a bed ! I wish i had discovered long johns years ago ! I drink and smoke too much , but hey ! i am content most of the time .

So granted a bit of luck and reasonable health , bring on the next 49 years !!!

I've got Oramorph if needed but Tramadol for day to day pain control...now there is a sign of aging, comparing medications:lmao:

I'm 57 but as I get older I realise time will fly bye and there is nothing you can do about it so just enjoy life as it comes. I can't do some things like hike anymore but that won't stop me getting out camping, just adjust your style to fit your abilities and I've found the last couple of years that I'm reading more and more, listening to more music and really getting back into cooking.

Anyway, I'm typing this in bed and the Teasmaid has started brewing (I'm not joking) so time for a cuppa, S,S&S and brekkie, thick American style pancakes, butter, maple syrup and crisp streaky bacon and extremely strong coffee... then back to bed to read the paper and watch 'War Horse'...retirement is a bitch; have a nice day ya'all.

I don't feel my age at all, 62 and each day is wonderful, new, vital and full of amazement. New things to learn, places to go and people to meet. The knees ache a little from too much rugby at school and the consequent removal of cartilage. A decompression bend in the shoulder lets me predict when it will rain, but I have knees and arms that work unlike many I see weekly (I run HBOT at a MS therapy centre as a volunteer).

"The first ten million years were the worst, and the second ten million years, they were the worst too. The third ten million I didn't enjoy at all. After that I went into a bit of a decline."

I am going to live happily forever (or at least die in the attempt)

I'm only 30, I used to think that was a big number - my son said to me the other day WOW thats a big number! till a couple of year ago I felt 16 recently I feel more around 20 ish. Although I cant do some the things I used to, unfortunatley I work behind a desk and have done for the last 7ish years and so I'm definatley not a strong or fit as I used to be purley because I used to do so much and now I don't.

Sure I'm still young and will be for quite awhile yet - nothing hurts I can still get up really early and go to bed relativley late. I feel I'm less fit but more healthy than when I was - even - younger than I am now:) I never did anything quickly anyway so I still do things at a comfortable pace without noticing any differences.

I have never worried about getting old or have to do things before a certian age etc I think as long as you keep moving your alright.

I think the problem Is not with our age but how we abused our body's when younger and the types of work we did, I'm gonna be 40 in September when I left school I went into forestry, years of using chainsaws, winching timber and loads of needling down in cold wet mud fencing ! Has damaged my hands knees to the point some mornings it's a pain trying to open my hands up !

I also worked in a boat yard again all hard manual work, this is where I had an accident and broke my back at the T12 thoracic vertebrae, ambulance to hospital into a+e Dr see's me gets me to touch my toes after giving my a muscle relaxant to free up my back which was in spasm, he tells me rest for 3 days and back to work ! After 2 half years of back pain my Gp sends me for x ray to which I found what I'd done at the time of the accident, had I fell jumped or slipped when I was back at work just after the accident I'd now be typing this from a wheelchair, I still have breathing issues when bent over.

The body does cope better when your younger but it sure makes up for your past actions when you get older, things just take a little longer to do these days.

Ps I'm not that keen on Dr's these days !!!

It's when you drink wine because beer is too bulky for the old bladder to cope with! Yes, this is the voice of experience!!!

Nope, not at all, my blood sugars are fine and my cholesterol is at an extremely healthy level :) The breakfast is not unhealthy, pancakes = flour, egg, milk, baking powder, bacon cooked crisp so fats gone, little bit of butter and maple syrup is no worse than a round of toast and marmalade; its a great breakfast you should try it.
