Following on from the tale (should that be tail?) of Molly it's obvious many of us here love our dogs.

This is my Fern. She is an 8 year old English Springer Spaniel working dog. Though I would say she is still only part trained. This seems to be common for Springers.

Fern is amazing with my kids and has put up with lots from them. One to one she is just such a willing flushing dog and gentle on the retrieve. However because of being attacked a couple of times as a youngster she is very defensive around other dogs and I certainly wouldn't take her anywhere around other dogs I might want to go back to.

Our doorbell stopped working just after we got her but we have never needed it. She goes bananas for visitors. If she doesn't like the look of someone approaching she has been known to hit the glass in the door at face height.

Other than that she loves to snooze between long walks in the countryside and be well rested for the next adventure.

This is my boy he's called Fiennes (as in Sir Ranulph)
He's a seven month old 3/4 German Pointer 1/4 lab.
I lost my old GSP in January at ten years old and had forgotten how much hard work a pup is!!

Always had GSDs and currently have a working breed who's 8 next month. Hoping he's got a few more years yet but unlikely he'll get past 10 or 11 :(
Wife and I have more or less decided that after having 3 of them, now having a young family and me no longer working the dog either for real or for schutzhund trials we are going to have a change next time and most likely go for a Leon Burger or maybe but less likely a St Bernard :)

She's a lovely golden retriever called Lucy. She's seven and we've had her since she was a puppy. She can do all the usual dog tricks like sit and lie down etc but she dives for rocks! If anyone of us throws a rock into a lake or river she disc es in, goes underwater and picks up the same rock and brings it back, she's amazing! Really friendly, does some funny things, she once stole and ate a kilogram bag of sugar, she ate a bee once- she's crazy but we love her! She's quite big and really healthy, I love her to bits and she's got strange human like qualities, dogs are the best! :)

Love the picture of her covered in mud with the innocent "what?" look on her face Cameron. She's lovely. My last dog Snoop was also a rock diver, loved to pull them up from the river bed, a trail of bubbles coming from his nose as the breathed out on the way down. (Have a picture of him doing it entitled "Jacques Russell Cousteau" after the diver and Snoop was a Jack Russell) He also liked to chase fish in the water daft mutt that he was, miss him terribly.

My last dog was a Weimeraner, absolutely crazy, needed loads of exercise, but was fiercely loyal and protective especially where the kids were involved.

My present dog is a Boxer, absolutely crazy, needs loads of exercise, but is fiercely loyal and protective especially where the grandkids are involved.

By far the best behaved dog i've had and i've had dogs my entire life, comes to heel when called, hardly ever yaps and only barks when appropriate.
I have put a LOT of time into training her, but to be honest she seems to pick up things easy and seems to really enjoy training.

Many times when i throw her ball if i don't say "fetch" she'll stay and turn and look at me as if to say "you forgot to say fetch"

Only bad thing is she's a very nervous dog, she came from a puppy mill so goodness knows the sort of life she had before we got her.
She's getting better and better but loud noises and she's a mess :(

Imagine Sadie with a crew cut! LOL. Don't have any pix of that but I take her to the groomers every Summer for such a cut as the heat here is horrible on her otherwise.

We have an English Springer Spanial that we rescued from the pound. His name is Jack The Ripper( My daughter is fascinated by serial killers, so all pets are named after them).
Un fortunately he is gun shy so when it gets noisy he hides in the bathroom.
We have had him for about 7 years and hi is the best alarm system you gould ever want.

All the dogs on here so far have been lovely but Bella as they say is smart as paint. I am biased towards JRT's anyway but she looks a great dog. (If you every come north I may have to steal her from you.) Funnily my JRT didn't like fireworks or guns if he could only hear them. If he could see a gun he was OK, but not in the distance and fireworks just freaked him out full stop. Did like to chase helicopters and kites though!

Thank you, that pic of Snoop with the backpack bigger than him is priceless. :lmao:

To be honest i've never been a small dog person, i've had Dobermans and rotty's most my life, but living in a apartment a dobby or rotty wasn't really fair, so we went for a JRT and i held my breath.

Chuffed to bits as she's the best dog i've had.

Keep looking to get another JRT so she has some company, but i think we got really lucky with her so we might be pushing our luck getting another.

My only other dog from years ago was a 11 stone nutter of an Irish Wolfhound. Great hunter who kept the freezer full of venison and rabbits.
So I know what you mean about small dogs, though JRT's just have such great personalities. They think they're huge.
