After testing with a hot wire, I can say they are definitely NOT bone or ivory - horn from the smell :)

Hmmm, I can't think of anything with horns like that.

The flat spot is usually quite distinctive of where teeth rub together in the manner described above.

I don't think it's a hoof as the keratin section is usually quite thin.

All I can say its not tooth, ivory or bone - it burns when a thin hot wire touches it and smells like burning hair! I have worked antler and bone and the like and this is much more like cow horn in feel than any form of tooth / ivory
