For my new telescope, I machined a collimating cap out of aluminium, and some new bearings out of Delrin for the altitude movement on the Dobsonian base. I wasn't sure if the new bearings would make a difference but they absolutely do make a noticeable difference.

Got some candle making gear for Christmas and have made some beeswax candles for my UCO lantern and ships candle holder. Followed one of the tutorials on YT and used the vitamin containers as the moulds. I did tweak the the instructions and used the cap ends to hold the wick bases and made it much easier to remove the candles once they'd set.
Cheers

Glow stuff arrived, I have fun projects ahead.

UV light, UV resin, moulds, and large particle glow sand. Glow beads will be first I think.

I made some candles using my new molds. I came up with an ingenious way of setting the wicks up as well which I will post in the TOP Tips thread. What did you make today?

Dale, may I ask, what diameter are the candles, and where do you buy the moulds from? I have an old folding swiss army lantern, and the candles it came with are ca. 20mm and much harder and slow-burning than the ones I can buy (which just melt and drip all over, as it gets pretty warm inside that lantern). I think the originals had a very high stearic acid content, or perhaps a smaller wick, not sure. But the only way to find out is to experiment So I need a good mould!

I repaired one of SWMBO's belts, one of those with a buckle in two parts (a rectangular "eye" and a hook).

Originally one end of the strap had just been doubled back on itself and glued. I doubled it back a little bit less, making the belt about a half an inch longer, then put five stitch holes in it with a pricking chisel (or punching claw, whatever you want to call it) then sewed or with black linen thread.

The surface of the leather is like suede or velvet... the holes were invisible, I had to print with the point of the needles to find them, and the repair is invisible.

100% Merino Loden henley shirt. Made it a little tighter than my usual loose fits, kept the seams well away from spots that see straps' pressure and rubbing, and tried an 'overlocked' look that keeps the seams flat and out of the way at the neck and shoulders.
It is tucked in and used as a layer here on top of my favourite woolen shirt, but it is pretty long for now, goes down to the bottom of the hips.
