Hi All,

Sorry no pic, but saw berry over weekend that can't find a reference for, small - about half inch dia, red/pinky colour. round - bust most odd shapped indentation in bottom, almost like an alun key socket or square socket in its base.

when squeezed - its oozed sicky frothey juice, and one single small seed.

any clues ???

Sounds very much like the deadly yew berry! The pip is very poisionous indeed, the flesh can be eaten in small amounts but I've never tried it.

There has been lots of discussion on the forums about the edibility of the yew berry, if you search around.

Cherry bark too is rich in cyanines; if I'm boiling it up for dye I have to have excellent ventillation, 'cos it stinks of bitter almonds  :(

Cheers,

Wow thanks the information guys !

I was out with my 6 year old daughter, she basically has a rule that if she hasn't seen it in a shop she doent touch it !, but we've been trying to extend this to wilder fruits, blackberries, sloes, gooserries, bilberrys etc, that we can't get in the local tesco !

The Yew wasn't something i'd any knowledge on until now !!

Thanks

ps - picture is excellent - i must start taking my camera out.
