Ok this is not bushcrafty but I found a odd looking plant growing under one of our bird feeders a few months ago and thought it looked interesting. I thought I'd let it grow on a bit to see if it could be identified. Anyway now it started to flower, and we are none the wiser.

The strange thing is that it looks very similar to something that grew from a packet of seed i bought in the spring. The packet claimed to contain Pignut seeds  .

So now I have two strange plants in the garden that look very similar but from totally different sources.

Can anyone tell me what these plants are?

This one has been growing in dense shade under a birch tree.

This one in full sun on a veg plot.

They are both about 4-5 foot tall.

Thanks for looking.

do you use bird seed mixes and if you do what do they contain?

Yes we do use mixed birdseed, but the only things in it are the average. Millet, sunflower seed harts, serials, crushed peanut and something called panicum ,witch from a google search looks like some kind of tall grass or bamboo.
