Absolutely, sadly I don’t think it’s of high enough priority to be looked at to get an update.
The 2024 zombie legislation states tip to handle, so I would imagine the EDC rules would be the same if it were to be amended

I caught a radio segment within the last couple of days, where
Keir Starmer stated (can't remember the exact words) that he'll stop at nothing to sort this out. He sounded like a man on a mission.

I'm now an observer to this whole thread. My original question has been answered: "Just sit back and wait".

Wouldn't worry too much. It's election time, he's a politician, he opens his mouth and soundbites come out. It's the nature of the beast.

However in practical terms, legislation of any sort needs parliamentary time and resource, and so its way way easier for politicians (of any stripe) to say a soundbite than it is to actually draft legislation and get it through.

All of the recent proposed railway reform legislation has "failed" (i.e. been abandoned) due to the election being called, there are current strikes of junior doctors and across the rail sector, plus the whole set of international events and general finances will i suspect suck up the legislatory time of at least the first year. Things like rail reform and knife reform tend to be the sort of stuff that gets bunged into the last few months of a term of government so I don't see much change for at least a year and probably longer. What is (IMO) more likely to happen is a bit more focus on applying current legislation in hot-spots (big cities)- via targeted police campaigns.

Indeed, Labour supporter though I am, I have little faith in Keir Starmer keeping his word on anything, he does not have a very good track record on sticking to his guns if you pardon the metaphor. Hoping he will drop this nonsense as soon as he is engaged in sorting out some of the real problems coming his way, that is to say the economy. Hopefully all this nonsense about vouchers and meal tickets for disability claimants will end up in the long grass too.

There will be talk of a lot of things, however anything that is neither practicable nor enforcable, or meets with a lot of industry resistance is unlikely to make it to the final draft, however I do worry about definitions, such as defining a bowie knife as a combat knife specifically and banning the design altogether.

I saw a little old lady on the underground today, knitting a tiny pair of socks. Those needles were flying all over the place. Didn't know whether to wrestle her to the ground or just call the police. In the end I let it go. Looked like she could take care of herself... and I'm a coward anyway.

What happens if you do not surrender an item during the surrender period?
Once the surrender period comes to an end on 23 September 2024, 23:59hrs ’zombie-style’ knives and ‘zombie-style’ machetes will be prohibited. If you are still in possession of one of these items at this point, your possession will become unlawful unless you have a defence. Once the surrender scheme closes, you will still be able to surrender the items to the police, but you might be liable for prosecution having possessed it, and you will not be able to claim compensation for the loss of the item.

I've just asked at one of the designated drop-off police stations. Surprisingly, they seemed to have been briefed on this new law. Person said that once you hand it in - meaning you'll never get it back - you'll have to accept the compensation offered.

I'd like to know who is valuing the knives? I remember they did the same thing with handguns after Hungerford, but have a feeling this will be different. Not as generous.

Please understand, I'm not angry or flustered. I now find it interesting and amusing, nothing more. Standing by to watch as people explode when their custom Chris Reeve 'Hollywood' knives are handed in for pennies.

I predict that this is merely stage one. A more restrictive Stage two is probably being worked on.

I also noticed @Broch that Dyfed-Powys police doesn't have a designated hand-in point, so clearly that part of Wales either (1) has a genuine Zombie problem or (2) doesn't expect many of the countryside residents to have anything to hand in
