I have five Australian Cattledogs left from my litter of seven, they are seven weeks old on friday 13th january and will be ready to leave their mum next week on the 20th, they are all Baer hearing tested and have been socialised/mauled by my six year old from day one, they will all be registered with the kennel club within the next two weeks. There are two red dogs and one blue dog, and two blue bitch's, these dogs love the outdoors and are perfect bushcraft companions, anyone interested PM me and i will send you all the details.
check the breed out at the uk website.

I will get a picture of him in his panniers!

I did start a project of making a small sled/buggy for transport kit but it is still at the design phase.
Will need to wait for him to stop growing!

He weighs around in around 55-60Kg (9st)

My missus isn't that bad Ogri! :lmao: :lmao:

Ive always wanted a Mal, but my present home it too small for one (especially a male) and the actual cost of the purchasing one. They are again the ideal bushcrafty type of pooch, especially in areas of snow.

StormWalker: was the Mal raised from a pup??

I am interested in the austrailian cattle pooch mind, same idea just smaller and they obviously they have less fur, but just as bonkers from what I have read from the above linked website.

Lovely dogs all round, but remember a dog is for life and not just for Bushcraft...

My girlfreind is 5'3" so that gives you an idea.

Great dogs but he needs about 5 miles exercise a day which is a good excuse to get out.

Will try to post some pics later most are on home PC at work now.

Great dogs, I believe a male will be my next dog.

Got a Yorkie (13yrs old) at the mo who comes camping with me, only the furs not designed for snow!!

A dog is an essential companian for camping and bushcraft in general!

I have had a Cattle Dog now for 9 years and can honestly say he is my best friend. I have to concur that these are the best bushcraft dogs ever! :D He is as at home in a canoe as he is in the mountains. My only complaint would be that he does sometimes hog the camp fire :( That said, he more than makes up for it in the wee small hours when he snuggles up and keeps you warm. We often leave him in camp to look after the gear knowing that this is a dog you can truly depend upon.

You bet ya!!!!!! The very same!!!! And I have no doubt that the dog could probably do ALL the things portrayed in the film. Mine collects the mail, fetches remote controls, in fact if you take the time to show him he can do all manner of small tasks, even collecting firewood!

I have friends that own American Mountain Cur dogs and have found them to be great compainions in the woods. Mountain Curs were the pioneer dogs of the southern Kentucky and Tennessee mountains. It has been said that without Mountain Cur Dogs the pioneers could of never been able to settle in these mountains. Mountian Curs were a necessity for the frontier family. They garded the family against wild animals and other dangers and caught, treed, and holed game for the family's food. Mountain Curs were held in high regard by the pioneers and few were sold out of ones family. It is believed that the Mountain Cur came from Europe along with their owners who came to America seeking new homes. I submit the following URL for review:
