He should have been sent down for a term plus a life ban. Talking to a couple of pals who are paramedics they are seeing more and more accidents caused by flipping dricks using mobiles. I'd like to see a mandatory phone blocker fitted to all vehicles that block your phone the moment you start the engine.

Just thinning of the gene pool

About 2 years ago I found myself giving CPR and rescue breaths for 15 minutes to a bloke who had been creamed off his motorbike by a van driver who was doing something on his phone. Pronounced dead at the scene. The gene pool was lessened that day, but it wasn't the van driver who left it, it was a father and grandfather who ran his own business employing a dozen people.

Worrying thing is its usually people outside their cars/vans who come a cropper. Thinning others' gene pools more like it. Can't stand phone drivers. All phones should be turned off or put out of reach AND distraction. By that I mean off and out of reach OR in the boot and on silent.

BTW as daft as the bad drivers and idiots on the road can be how daft are the magistrates who allow people with more than 12 points to drive. There is supposed to be someone in Lancashire driving with 38 points on his license!! *** is that about?? I mean I can understand people getting a few speeding tickets after each other to get to 12 points. I can understand a lack of judgement can get 6 points offence. I also understand how the courts can be allowed to let drivers off without a ban if they can prove it will cause extraordinary hardship to them and others. Say a business owner who needs to drive for work (drumming up business) and the company would close if he didn't drive. Or something else like that. However I can not understand that once you have FCUKed up to the order of 12 points or 15 points but surely you would have learnt your lesson by then and been driving safer, obeying all laws???? If you are too stupid to learn that you get much more than that then you should not even have a license. Is this just me howling at the moon on this or do you believe that 38 points on your license should be at least a long term ban if not something more serious??

What you need to take into consideration is that nowadays each of us have the ability to multi task. We have small pop-up screens on the TV that allow us to watch two channels at once, multiple advertisements on webpages. billboard banners placed at busy road junctions, some even change the picture while you're trying to enter the flow of traffic. In car entertainment system that boggle the mind.

So using two phones whilst driving a 1½ ton battering ram on a busy road near bus queues etc. Sheesh, the man should be given a medal!

Seriously though, it's too stupid for words, sad thing is you just know he's not the only cretin doing this. Worst case I ever saw was a huge juggernaut wandering over carraigeways while the driver watched a portable TV while driving at night along the M2 from London. The glow from the TV on the dashboard lit up the cab. I passed him on my motorbike and couldn't believe what I saw. That was in 1981. Wish I'd had the brains to take his number and then call the cops. Kicked myself for not doing so for weeks afterwards.

Back to the original posting. My sympathies go out to his future victims when he starts driving again... after 3 months into his 12 month ban.
