LOL. I suspect they're filmed around the commonwealth. It's lifted from an Ozzie public safety network(TAC Victoria)

That one was shown on Welsh TV to be honest so it looks like the auzzies bought it whatever, powerful stuff. I don't allow phones to be turned on while we eat as a family at home let alone use one in a car.

I must admit I have a helmet cam on the bike now and the number of motorists i "beep" and they can't put the phone away quick enough..I think they think i'm a rozzer. The good thing in Manchester now though is that if there is a serious accident, the police request your phone records. If the phone was active at the time of the accident and you were the sole occupier of the vehicle, you're getting yer collar felt!!

What sickened me about this was seeing the idiots defence liar (sorry lawyer) on tv saying explaining how it really wasn't that bad as his client was only talking on one phone whilst trying to get a number off the other.

I know every offender has a right to a defence but I can't see how these lawyers sleep at night. If I lied in court it would be called perjury or contempt of court, when they do it its called a lucrative living!

12years ban from driving + a good flogging if you ask me. i stopped counting how many times i nearly got run over(on bike/ foot) by idiots daydreaming in their bl*** phones instead of concentrating on the traffic! with all that electronic junk in cars nowadays i wonder why they cannot install devices blocking off phones when the car is driving...

Must be silly season right now, or maybe I've started noticing it since reading this thread. Saw two different truck drivers on the phone while in control (loosely) of a big ol' builder's wagon, but the best was seeing some teenager pulling onto a roundabout on his moped having just left school texting someone on his phone.

About fitting gizmos in cars to block the phone signals. You know that if a car maker did that people wouldn't buy their car. It's simply not something people want, gizmos enforcing the law like that are considered against their human rights. Same with fitting speed limters on cars to just 70mph. What is the point of having a road car sold in the UK and able to go 150mph?

Too much self restraint is expected of people nowadays. Most times it's ignored anyway.

Like Forestdweller said above. Bring back flogging! I'd vote for a law like that and wouldn't do anything out of step if I knew that sentance could be handed down to me. A slapped wrist for slamming into someone crossing the road while I was driving and texting isn't much of a deterrant.

I applaud that thing MadDave said about the police checking phone records of car drivers at the time of the accident. Sensible thinking at last. Shouldn't have to be done though, people should simply know

I'm sure there's a special place reserved for lawyers in the afterlife. Least I hope so.

... but the best was seeing some teenager pulling onto a roundabout on his moped having just left school texting someone on his phone.

Saw the exact same thing on Bradford ring road last year; sprog on a scooter wobbling along between two lines of traffic coming up to a busy dual-carriageway r/a at tea-time and texting all the while. I reported him to the plod via the voice-dialling hands-free. Don't know if they caught up with him before he traumatised someone by chucking himself in front of their motor

Worst one I saw was the driver and passenger having a conversation as they were driving along a dual carriageway ahead of me.

Doesn't sound so bad?

They were using sign language, using both hands. I know a little bit of BSL, and recognised some of it.

To be honest, I think the Police have given up on traffic law enforcement. I could drive for half an hour and count dozens of offences being commited.

Now, with electronic links to DVLA and insurance records, I can't see why they don't just stop you, confiscate the phone and give you the three points there and then. No need to bother with the hassle of collecting fines.

Same goes for speeding, no seat belt etc. I think everyone would agree that there are too many cars on the roads of our small island. Simple, tot up 12 points and get a 1 year ban, drink driving - five year ban, first offence after any ban - lifetime ban.
