I picked up a couple of cheap tomahawk heads from E-bay a few weeks ago and I'm currently in the process of cleaning them up and trying to put an edge on them.
However they didn't have handles with them as I was trying to keep postage down and as a result I have to find handles for them.
I have bought a replacement hammer handle from a DIY shop to have a play with and I would be able to fit this like a conventional axe handle.
Ideally I'd like to have a proper tomahawk handle for one of them though and I'm not really sure about how to acheive this. I have a branch of about the right size drying here at the moment but as it is a branch and not split out from a larger piece of wood I don't know if it will be safe.
Any advice or pictures would be very welcome :notworthy

I'll have a go with the hammer handle and haft it like an axe to start with - It will be a lot easier and I don't have any great tools. And besides I'll probably screw it up :)
I'll keep and eye out for longer handles - Sledge hammer ones are definitely long enough but are way way way too thick. Guess i'll have to buy a proper one

sam,

Do bear in mind that hawks are designed generally to be friction fir - in theory you use a tapered handle and drop it through from the top and tap it home. The woods need to be bone dry at this point. Then oil and the wood will swell to a tight fit. It can come loose if it dries again. I got bored witht his and used a round hammer wedge :D.
