throwing hawks

I know some people love to throw hawks and some people think it's a bit silly,

I love it but I did scare myself today. I had made a couple of temporary handles for throwing so I didn't damage the nice one's in my hawks. My friends and I were happily heaving them at the target when it was my turn again I pulled it back went to throw it and felt a sudden lightness, the haft had snapped and the head fell behind me narrowly missing me! The moral of the story is check the haft each time you throw it and if it looks dodgy let your mates go first

LMAO, a bodger i knew didn't bother to tighten the loose handle on his side axe...
... it flew off the helve while he was hewing at a show, came down and hit him on the knee!
