Anyone know from where/what I can re-use (read: scavenge) some thin spring steel? I need it to be about 1.5-2mm and springy.

What steel is it in hand saws?

hand saws aren't spring steel as far as I know.

Can you forge down a section of larger spring steel??

Spring steel is just high carbon steel that gets it's springyness from the way it is heat treated. It depends on what you want to do with it, but older handsaw blades should be just fine. Cut them cold and keep quenching while you work it into shape (I assume you'll be using a wheel or grinding disc). If it overheats, it can lost it's springy properties.

I will most likely use a hack saw, just so I don't have to cool the material the whole time. Makes a mess. I think there might be a heavy duty cutting plier that might tackle the task. Will see if I can find an old saw somewhere.
