Ive never liked Olight, i think its all the shilling you see on youtube.... vanessa of wildwomanbushcraft did a video about how many dozens olight flashlights she had been sent to review/advertise and most of them died afetr a short time....

Well, I guess I have been lucky then, because my Baton II has been going well since March 2019. It has edged out my three Fenix lights for every day carry, and lives in my back left hip pocket when I am not at work (office trousers and sitting on my butt don't do well with torch carry)
I also only see their stuff on youtube when I go looking for reviews, so hadn't noticed it was getting pushed.
I will look up that Wildwoman video. I just ordered another light from them, a new Baton Turbo, which looked like the light I have been waiting about 10 years for. It will suck big time if it doesn't hold up as well as my older lights!

A lot of the olite videos on youtube seem to be just after a new model has been released, and they ship loads out to reviewers, they dont seem to have been used for very long before the review, one of teh good things about Dave Canterbury is that he reviews things for months before doing the video...

They cant be all bad or they would have gone out of business...

a brand name doesnt mean quality, just look at the problems with teh leatehrman arc and thats really expensive...

i can appreciate the magentic base charger would be quick, but its one more thing to pack/go wrong...

didnt realise propritary batteries, thats awfull

I've had a couple of Olights. One I won in a competition (a pocket torch), the other I bought (powerful head torch). I also have a few of their tiny keyring torches. I love the tiny keyring torches. They plug in to charge & are tiny but bright. The picket torch was rubbish. Turned on in the pocket, magnet grabbed keys & coins & pulled them out of my pocket. I don't like the magnetic charging at all. It's proprietary and doesn't work reliably. If there must be a built in charger then a USB socket us much better. The head torch is okay by made me realised that for what we do (closing up livestock at night etc.) the design of most head torches is all wrong - I need wide area illumination not bright spots. It's also better for cooking, reading etc. We ended up sourcing one for our store which is silly cheap but far more effective as an area light rather than a focussed beam. It just goes to show that I shouldn't equate price with quality.

This is what put me off their pocket torches. I have settled for now on a Nitecore MT10C which I like a lot so far. Picked it up cheap on AliExpress when they had an offer on, so a bargain.

The Baton for instance, will take a regular rechargeable but the Olight battery has a recessed button top that won’t fit on a regular charger, so it has to be charged with the blue magnet. It will take a regular rechargeable but doesn’t meet its claimed lumens.

Everything needs to be either on board charging, battery with USB socket, or able to charge on a dedicated charger, not separate bits and bobs. Olight are all about in your face marketing and flashy products, they don’t do anything Sofirn or Wurkkos do at half the price. They’re also quite happy to sell lumen monsters to muggles who then set their pocket on fire.

But with Aliexpress black friday sale, as Nice65 and Chris say sofirn/wurkoss, nitecore etc are a bargain.....

i had a klarus but it burned my pouch, now ive got a sofirn IF23 and very happy, but theres now a recently released IF23 pro on aliexpress on sale, 5000 lumens and has a better interface ...
