In Chatelard and Martigny, this July, coke, snacks etc from a petrol station was twice the price of France. We were riding road bikes over and back from Chamonix.
Why not climb it? The record is 2 and a half hours up the North face, you could fly out in the morning, climb it and be home on the same day even allowing for the rest of the journey.
Good idea. COOP was in Martigny. Bought a wee micro 1 cup cafetiere. There is a wide range of pricing. Just looked at the coop site, £18 for a big washing powder box ! @69p = 1 franc.
I haven't been for years - I last stayed in Wengen, not too far away. We went everywhere by train, and it's very efficient, plus you get to see some amazing views while you're travelling. The trip up the Jungfrau railway is worth doing - quite some feat of engineering! Oh, and eating Bratwurst and Rosti potato on a freezing cold day while admiring the amazing views is highly recommended!
