Following on from a sugestion made by Fenlander who pointed out all the great information that had come out of Leon-B's thread of things to learn here is the BushcraftUK Quiz.

The concept is simple, ANYONE can post a question and the number of questions will just keep on growing!

The format? - You type your Question as normal but heres the cunning bit! (cudos goes to British Red btw) you then type your answer below and change the text colour to white! ;)That way it remains hidden till you highlight the text.

The important thing is YOU set the question AND the answer!

AND THAT WE KEEP THIS THREAD PURELY FOR QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS - Chat and related questions should be posted HERE

I sugest we put it in the following format...........

QUESTION:

Question text ...........................................

ANSWER:

Answer text ..............................................

#

If we end with a # after the answer it will show where the end is!

I hope this all makes sense! - if not PM me and i'll update this post to make it clearer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK I guess all we need now is for question 1! - so an easy one to start with ;)
QUESTION:
What should you always carry along with your axe and knife?
ANSWER:
fantastic idea, don't have a question yet, give me time, but i suggest that as the background isn't white, a sort of beige text colour is used as i could make out the answer without highlightsing it.
Bushcraft UK was born on the 14th December 2002.
QUESTIONS:
- What was the subject of the very first thread?
- Who made this post and what was the date?
DO NOT SCROLL DOWN BEFORE YOU'VE TRIED TO ANSWER THE QUESTION!
ANSWER:
- The subject of BCUK's very first thread was "The best knife".
- The post was made by our very own Tony on 16-04-2003, 08:27
Explanation:
When you see this question, you probably think "How on earth should I know?" or "It's not a bushcraft related question" - fair. I thought it's some nice 'useless' info to know about the site AND how it works ;)
If you have a look at you URL bar at the top of your screen, you'll find that every thread starts in this format:
http://www.bushcraftuk.com/community/showthread.php?t=***
The *** need to be swapped for numbers. The threads are numbered in order the are created (as far as I found out), so the very first thread that was created can easily be found by swapping the '***' for '1'.
This thread and thus the answer on the questions is found:
http://www.bushcraftuk.com/community/showthread.php?t=1
Q. Why should you be concerned if you find a red circle around a bite ?
A. It is a symptom of Lyme disease.
Q. Why is stropping required to achieve a 'razor' edge ?
A. Stropping removes the flexible burr formed by honing. By folding the burr backwards and forwards, you cause it to yield along a predictable line along the edge of the blade. Otherwise, the burr may fold or tear locally, creating a rough edge.
