...this is a bushcraft knife...
Like everyone else here, the search for the perfect bushy knife is endless. The Woodlore and Alan Woods own Bushcrafter came very close for me, and yet I loved the handle on the old Mora training knife. What it was about it I couldn't put my finger on until I damaged my Woodlore scales and had to wrap gaffer tape around it as a quick fix. The result was'nt pretty, but it felt much better.
This great find prompted me to contact Alan and have made MY perfect knife, which although would be used for British bushcraft, could also be happy in a rainforest or African savannah. Wider blade, straighter profile, thumb swell, massive wide profiled grips, and a wide flat end so I can use my palm to bash the blade into stuff The results are these two custom Bushcrafters, both in RWL-34, one with a subtle curved profile, and one much straighter. The green micarta was a bonus from Alan as I requested that one in antique ivory (how right he was), it is the straighter of the two. Both beasties are shown alongside a Bushcrafter for size.
The sheath design I wanted to be very robust and bombproof, like the original Tamarack design.
Not everybody's cup of tea, and certainly not as beautiful as Reds PFK, but I have at last found the perfect all round knife for me. The next step is contacting Mr Mitchell to make my design in exotic loveliness, with customization and engraving that'll prevent me from ever using it, but it must be done. Damn you Red and your PFK
