Watched it this morning on iPlayer when i was up with the baby (05.15)There was a series years ago where most people died but there were some in stasis on a train in a tunnel, the rain was acid etc that was quite good iirc.
That would have been "The Last Train". Fairly cra**y comet strike mini series. Started off interestingly but ended up a bit too sentimental with a big dash of Mad Max thrown in. Survivors looks much better. I'm just glad my kids were in bed when I watched it. Otherwise I'd have had the comments and eye rolls when the mushroom line came up!
just a thought - resistance is often genetic so surely there should be more members of the same family surviving?

Did she find her son, maybe he`s till alive. I missed about 5 minutes when the cat wanted feeding.
I have been trying to think of what that series was called for AGES!! The Last Train!

I had to smile when I watched Survivors - When Mrs Trippy is commenting on how you wouldn't do this or that and how she would find a rucksack and get bottled water etc, I knew I'd married the right woman!
Personally, in that situation, I'd have found water then been off to the nearest major police station to raid the armoury.

First episode ended on a cliff hanger question - if you were part of half a dozen random survivors on the M1 what would be your short, medium and long term plan?
Suggestions -
1) England is a harsh climate and there are many months of the year when there is little to eat - winter through to early summer - head south, sail a boat across the channel and keep going till I hit more all year round cropping such as south of France. There set up to farm
2) Identify an area of mixed farming and move in before the land goes to pot. Identify diesel supply and run tractors for a couple of years till you have the horses sorted to carry on with.
3) Head for alternative technology centre (South Wales)
4) If I had a pilot in the survivors - fly to a tropical island, covered by cropping plantations, lay back and enjoy life.
Someone tell me none of these would get me through the first 5 years!

No, I don't think I'd want to be anywhere urban or even semi urban. Sadly, as depicted in episode two, those areas would quickly become the preserve of the "undesirables." Better off heading for the sticks if you ask me, via the local Land-rover dealership, large supermarket, and, as mentioned by someone else, via the nearest police/military establishment for a selection of weaponry for hunting and self defence!
Find a nice cottage in the country, with a spring and a bit of land and a good all round field of fire!
I can picture it now:
Mr Undesirable, "Come on out, we've got a shotgun!"

Survival is a SERIOUS business!
Take to the old ways and find high, defensible ground - possibly an old castle, fort or fortified manor house. It should already have a walled garden for produce, productive lands and coppice, carp-lakes or fishing or access to the sea and the technology in the house should be old enough that you could rely on it as it was pre-industrial revolution.
I have my national trust handbook and would not be afraid to use it!!!!

I didnt like the programme. Sorry but I cant be doing with this cheesy kind of british soap operah acting where everybody has the same esturary accent and stereotypical boring personalities. We have the ex con who *yawn* is really quite a nice-but-gritty-guy. Everybody knows the majority of armed robbers do not have that kind of moral fibre or nice middle class look!
And the girl with the whine, sorry, wine. Nobody in a post apocalypic world is THAT stupid to think they can own a warehouse full of wine just because they said baggsies on it first when everybody outside is marauding round with shotguns. And nobody, NOBODY would have a problem with raiding dead peoples houses for tins of foods. The moral issues the show tries to make people deal with just simply wouldnt exist if this situation was real. The chartacters are so crap. Has anybody watched "This is England"? Shane Meadows should have directed this - the depth he puts to his characters thinking and feeling, and the seriousness natures which he manages to portray in 1980`s England would be far more suited to this.

I tried to watch it, maybe got half way through before being bored to tears. I found it mindless drivel with, as said above, over blown stereotypical personalities. It all seems a little 'cookie cutter' programming to me. Upper class twit, low class thug, middle class worker, dumb blonde, a black man , a couple of Muslims I think there doesn't seem to be a token Asian yet but I suspect he or she will appear soon. Right now we have the characters bonding, next the team work and betrayal followed by a victory of sorts? Naa I'll give this a miss I future I think.

I have. Very good film. Very dark and quite disturbing, but sadly, quite an accurate portrayal of a certain section of society that I encounter regularly at work.
I think it's OK, a little watery and slow, but not as bad as it could have been given the cast of "casualty" extras. I'm wondering if we could be expecting a bit much from it? It's made for TV, middle England science fiction drama. I dont ask any more from it than I would an episode of Star Trek or Dr Who. On that level it satisfies.

Warwick castle looks good.
Part of the problem, would be that they are not complete any more.
I would be tempted to go for one of the forts in Scotland.
Fort George because it is designed for modern weapons, and is a military base as well.
There are at least three others of this design : -
Fort Cumberland
Tilbury Fort
I think Berwick Barracks is one as well.
I would be more tempted by this group, the HHA, as they are all owned, and mainted by their owners. Like Warwick, but I would be very tempted by Bamburgh Castle. It is an amazing location, and not sure if it still does, but had its own electricty supply. One of the first places to get it.
This has always been my idea, but you do wonder if some more modern building might not be better.
Clear a mile round a big block of flats, factory, or similar many floored building. Basically make yourself a big vietnam era fire base. A motor factory, with square foot gardening on a large scale.
You need something over 120 people for a stable gene pool, and the human race to survive. How that breaks down, I am not sure, but you would have to be very careful. Also what effect families etc have on this, not sure.
