I'm wanting to go out next weekend and eldest son wants to come along, so if anyone fancies a day or 2 out let me know.

FioFO

I cant make next weekend, as I am off to see England V Baa Baa's with Edward. I am off for the whole week after that so may well go out for a couple of nights, to try my new toy I have just recieved...:) :) :)

Just got in from working down Chichester, bloody long day. Can't believe my engineer wouldn't work Saturday, when I was his age I wanted all the work I could get. Anyway I'm knackered and need time with kids tomorrow so won't be able to make the knife workshop, sorry Stu.

FioFO

Ok, Paul. Thanks for letting me know... That means down to two now, as Tonys droped out, I'll still run it, so I dont let anyone down,...

I'm going to speak to the farmer in Easton about using one of his woods next weekend , I will do a recce if I get time so it will be all new, failing that it will be Colchester . Just bought a Nomad hammock and tarp setup from amazon £40 for my son to use, not a bad price at all. Think I'm going to be out every weekend from now on.

Just got back from the knife making workshop with Big Stu. Absolutely brilliant ! With Stuarts help, I am now well on my way to making my first knife. I decided to make a bushcraft knife based on my Arthur Wright knife, classic bushcraft knife. I started from ground bar stock 01 carbon steel and marked out the shape I wanted then cut out the shape with a 4" angle grinder with cutting disk. Then changed to a flap disc and cleaned up the profile shape and cleaned up with a 6" hand file. Then marked out where I wanted the dowel pins and drilled the blank. I then set about marking the cutting edge and hand filed the tapered edge, this was tricky to keep central but I'm well pleased with the result.

Once I had the blank how I wanted it, Stuart fired up the furnace and inserted both his and my blanks and heated them until bright orange before quenching in some old engine oil. Once quenched and cooled I ran a file over the blank to make sure it was hard, sure enough you could hear it was hard and the file hardly marked the steel. Then I roughly polished up the blade ready to temper the steel. Stuart used a butane torch and heated the blade until it turned a straw colour the quenched the blade in water.

I'm very pleased with the result and now have a few hours of polishing to do before starting to think about attaching a nice wooden handle. My parents have recently cut down a walnut tree, so I intend on trying to make a walnut handle and fasten it with some brass and silver steel rivets I will make at work.

Then hopefully Stuart will show me how to make a beautiful leather sheath for it and job done.

Stuart, thank you very much for your hospitality and your time, it was much appreciated and I really enjoyed it and have the beginnings of a knife I am so far, very pleased with.

I also wanted to say how impressed I was with your beautiful leather knife sheath and axe masks, they are awesome, you have some good skills!

Once again, thanks very much for a wonderful day.

Its a shame that you were the only one that made it, it was good to see you mate, in some ways it allowed you to get the most out of it.

I agree there, keep meaning to get some panel wipe just keep on forgetting, the colamn lamp needs some bad.....

Tobys knife is going to be a nice one, he took his time over it and knew what he wanted to achive, theres only one comming out from today as he was the only one that made it today...Paul and Tony let me know for sure they were not coming yesterday,

My knife I have now had on the go for about six months now, lol, keep picking it up and putting it down, Iam not sure how i really want a knife, and the Mora I really like,

Dont get me started on the challange............I'll be doing it with in the prescribed kit list as per the one set down in the challange, and use my skills and abilitys to forfill the requiremnets, and not change it to suit me

So much for my plans for today... am up to my eyeballs in boxes, and at some point I must've dropped my keys into one of them, because I can't find them anywhere (and I rarely lose things)

The force is strong,so Come over to the dark side, get a jetboil:) . coleman fuel is better than panel wipe, it burns hotter. but twice the price but panel wipe fine for the warmer weather. looking forward to our next outing. later carl

I want ot try the stove on diesel, I ve heard you can use it........ I will try some time, bet itsmokes tho...lol

Na.... Its gas....

I have thought about a Wood Gas Stove, but thats only because you dont need to carry fuel, that realy the only benifit I can see with them tho..... The fact that you use the wood about you.

I cant wait till the next outiing, for me think it will be the June meet...... Next weeks a no goer, the week off looks like its filling up, what size bags do you want, I got to get the sewing machine out soon, lol, i want to get the other axe done as well... Looks like I got a couple of Mora sheaths to make for another forum as well...lol

Bergen's packed for me to go out tomorrow night to do the Daniel Boone challenge (solo).

Could easily fit it all in a much smaller pack, but I'm taking the Bergen anyway for its superior back support (I'm going to be walking a few miles)

Only doing one night because I have to be back here the next day to keep packing and moving.

I'll be doing a few videos (haven't uploaded one in a while now) and I might take a few still frames (but I'm not hefting the D90 with me... not worth the extra weight for a one nighter)

Looks like I'll be hiking a little under 3 miles in (which means I'll be hiking the same distance back out too)
