Has any of you been out enjoying the Arctic conditions just now ,I was just thinking how it must resemble Scandinavia in some parts of the country just now.We have had none here a couple of wee flurry,s that did,nt come to anything and just of the coast here the isle of Arran has been Hit really hard with blizzards and they still have no power at all on the island which is abit of a bummer as the better half had a wee Auchrannie Hotel tripped booked to arrive monday but we got cancelled :yuck:

I know... It's been 6 feet in places but I only got back from the Austrian Alps on Saturday and the missus would have been a bit miffed if i'd gone straight back out and started "burrowing".... So we compromised with a long walk in the snow with the dog on Sunday ;)

I camped out on Saturday night, not a problem, really enjoyed it although I do now need to get something to raise myself off the ground when sleeping...

I've been dragging the dog around Saddleworth Moor.

It's a bit wet underfoot though and Skadi is not enjoying it as much as I am.

Old picture, but it gives you the right idea and location.

This Saturday the Swedish Airforce Museum opened a brand new
exhibition called 'Survive'! There were a lot of government agencies,
survival associations and knowledgeable people there, teaching
survival skills to anyone who might listen.

There was also a fascinating lecture by a swedish woman who's
climed to the top of Mount Everest, and also paddled and biked
around the continental US. Which took 440 days...:Wow:

These scouts were very good at starting a fire, using different methods.
They made Pine needle tea for people and showed various winter shelters.

Inside the museum there are lots of great planes! A Catalina and a Mig 15.
And a lovely Spitfire!

SwAF used both the Spitfire and P-51 Mustang!

The chilling start of the Survival exhibition...

Here in Sweden we are starting to experience more and more problems
with the electricity, which was unheard of twenty years ago. I am convinced
that this is an EC / EU harmonization, aimed at rising the price of electricity.

These are things you might want to have ready when (not if...) the electricity
disappears.

A clever way to save heat when your house starts to get cold: Put your bed
under the kitchen table and put some blankets on it, making it a small tent!

As it is the Airforce Museum you also get to see the military survival.
This is what a pilot has with him today, it he has to eject.

For around 15 Pounds you could book a flight in a real Fpl-39 Gripen simulator,
with an instructor by your side. Here is my friend "flying".

It is a totally awesome experience and I even got to shoot down enemy aircrafts
using missiles and the gun!

The diploma I got, telling about my adventure!

The Sussex crew have braved a weekend out every month so far. I've recorded temps down to -7°C in my hammock. We've had a bit if snow too.

Last meet we had a wind chill factor in the sub zero teens.

Me and a mate managed to get out over the weekend just gone.
Was awesome! The views were stunning, and the snowdrifts up in the dales were incredible.
Got the car stuck twice but we were left un-phased...

Managed to get set up to a nice location in a wood.
Snow wasn't too deep insde, and got a little shelter from the wind. (Helped by a tarp)

All the dead wood was very dry and burned very well indeed.
Once we got settled I got a pot of warming beef stew on the go, and washed it down with a hip flask of Glenfiddich.
