Looks like there's another storm on the way coming in early Saturday. Winds up to 86 mph predicted in our part of the west and gusts around 80 for most of the day! What is worrying is they are not coming from the usual SW but more from the NW so I expect to see some trees down.

Funnily enough I went through my chainsaws earlier in the week, cleaning and sharpening them all. Charged all the torches and rechargeable lights today and will ensure everything that can be strapped down is tomorrow.

Yep, I'm a bit worried about what I may find in the wood after the weekend. It's fairly well protected from the normal Westerlies but a bit too exposed to the 'new' storm winds from the North East.

We are thinking it might be a good idea to get the beehive strapped down.

Let's also spare a thought for @Chris testing out his new Rock Fortress on Saturday.

We’ll see if it lives up to the ‘rock’, or if it should be called the Flying Fortress.

If anyone sees a very damp and annoyed bald man being flung across the skies of East Yorkshire, you’ll now it’s not gone well.

Ours are normally strapped down and current have three bricks on the lids. Worth checking the entrance blocks haven't moved after the wind.

It's also been very wet here which makes the trees more prone to falling.

Personally I wouldn't risk camping over the weekend, those that do take care and it might be worth writing a return address on your tent!

From the forecast it looks like the winds are going to be about 20-30mph stronger around your neck of the woods. Up here they're gusting up to the 40s, but otherwise will be around 20mph according to the weather.

I'd also be SSE of woodland, which would put me on the opposite side from where the wind is coming.

I'll keep an eye on it, and if I get there and it seems dangerous I'll head back home.

Edit: Eek. Just seen the forecast has updated and it is going up to 55mph gusts and 25-30mph winds all night even up here. Think I might have to shift my trip out to the following weekend so that my view of the woods isn't from above.

Isn't it supposed to be yellow warning only on the west coast or was that the unnamed storm last night? I was planning to head east to relatives and thought I was missing the worst of it but now that is cancelled so I will get the pleasure to hear the wind from inside my own house. One named storm it was so loud that it sounded like a jet engine firing up the garden somewhere. I have heard a jet engine being tested so know how loud they are so that is not an exagerration!!

I am fortunate in that I live on the edge of a flood plain built into the hillside with a hill up the back. Wind rarely comes head on into our house but usually along the road. So we have protection on three sides of our house. Even the tall trees in our garden and further up the hill are not tall enough to reach us. Plus two years ago we had a tree surgeon assess them all and cut down the ones he thought were a risk 4 large trees bought it that day!!!

Our area saw quite a few trees down one named storm a few years back. That was the strong storm that blew from the wrong and unusual direction. Trees obviously grew stronger from the prevailing wind direction so many trees bought it that night which would survive worse winds from the usual direction.

Hunker down people and keep safe from the winds. Then pick up the pieces should you need to afterwards.

Good luck everyone.
We’re coming home from the Lakes a day early. Don’t fancy the M6 on Saturday.

Lost my dividing line fence in the last storm, h/a are not coming untill January to even look and assess the damage.
On yellow warning again this weekend, big winds and lots of rain that could cut me off from the rest of civilisation. I'm good, plenty of food, lamps and ready for power cuts.
Whatever comes, I don't care, I'm stuck in bed with a stinking cold and runny nose that makes Lindford Christie look like a tortoise.! Now where is my hottie, and that giant bar of chocolate,? I'll surface on Monday. :)
Stay safe .

Gone to red warning now.
Glad I'm staying home.

Its supposed to start raining here this evening and pretty much not stop until Monday. Its fine atm, but we're expecting winds into the 30+ kph range for most of the weekend.

In the last couple of hours the sound from the woodland at the back of the cottage has completely changed. SW Wales coast, about a mile inland and the rustle of the trees of a couple of hours ago now sounds like surf on a reef, a continuous low roar, gradually increasing as time passes. All battened down so no obvious danger here.

Don't forget to check thee use by date on your hotwater bottle!! It has a circle with a year on it. IIRC it is either the production date or the use by date. Apparently they have a safe life of 3 years. They can last longer but the hot water can degrade the rubber and it ages on top too. The result the bottle can rupture and cause serious scalding.

Seriously with the increase in fuel costs there are more use of hot water bottles too save on heating. The result is that A&E are seeing more cases of injuries from failed hot water bottles. I have never liked them personally and prefer wheattie bags. These are cotton bags with some kind of grain in that you heat for a set time in the microwave according to the power of it. This heats the grains and you get the effect of a hot water bottle in a longer lasting and safer format. Just FYI only.

We’ve battened down the hatches here tonight and glad we did. Red warning for us on the western fringe of snowdonia too, but the internet hasn’t given out yet and the log basket is full. So I guess we will see what the night brings.

We are only predicted 60 mph & rain. I was digging out tree stumps by hand today. Might give that a miss tomorrow. Power stations charged, have plenty of light, heat & cooking options. Fingers crossed for no major damage. Hope you guys are okay.

Wind is getting up here. Just had to go out and weigh down the up and over bike cover, as I could hear it bouncing about.
I realy need to find a way of screwing it into the drive, but I got it second hand, minus the bolts. Fingers crossed it doesn't take off with the twelve massive logs and rope weighing and tying it down.
Now I need a nice hot cuppa, followed by some ginger, tumeric and cayenne mixed with a lemsip, and I'm off to sleep through whatever happens. I can do no more in my present state of unwellness. What will be, will be.
At least I'm not in a caravan like I was with that massive storm that wasn't going to happen on the night I moved in, in the eighties! That was scary, and I had to be at work at 5am to milk the cows with a dislocated and strapped up wrist, after getting hurt rescuing a pony on dartmoor the day before. That was a 24 hrs to remember!
This time, I'm in bricks and mortar, cosy and only a stinking cold to contend with.
Splice the mainsail and Hove to all.
