I saw a Ron Hood DVD where they were doing Lizard Fishing, which is where you want to get lizards out of a thorny bush, which they do in the Arizona desert. You get an 8 foot pole with 6 foot of cordage & a noose on the end. You manover the noose into the bush & after many attempts you can lasoo the 12' lizard to get your dinner. I have heard stories of old poachers doing a similar thing with game birds, which were drawn to a spot under the chosen tree using the old trail of raisens method. You leave a largish file of raisens directly under the tree limb you are sitting in & lift them up when you can lasoo them. Like many poacher's tales it may have been done but it is poaching, unless done on your own land, and would probably be frowned on by the law.

He he :) Thank you for making this thread look both legitimate and possibly illegal at the same time Neumo :D You star! Hey, a 12 foot lizard though...that sounds thoroughly worth it!
Having thought about it... although there is more waiting around, fishing could have its advantages over snare setting... Fewer escapees/stolen game, quicker dispatch, no forgotten traps, less multiple journeys, fresher catch...etc, so if you have the time, why not? Of course snares and traps have the advantage of a human not being there to put everything off.
