Here we go again...

Just to confuse things there were two Stuarts.... work out which one is shaggystu.

Thanks once again to shaggystu for arranging use of the site and hosting hopefully the first of many Meets at Spitewinter:

The weather was great, not a cloud in the sky all weekend although there was a bit of a chill in the early hours.

Friday

My set up:

View from my set up:

Purpose built designated fire areas:

These areas (about 20 in total meant that no scarring was evident and all ashes were cleared away.

We were given special, one- off permission to have a fire off of the designated areas

Cliff's New fire pit:

Saturday

To start off Cliff made a Mountain-man Breakfast for us all:

All tucking in:

Just a small wafer thin piece for me:

Then to work that off, a walk around the area for a group bow-drill hunt from scratch:

Stuart carving the bearing block:

groupfirebow0013.jpg

Cliff sorting out the spindle:

Clive making the bow:

Time to burn off some calories ( some more than others before you say it )

Cliff:

Clive:

Stuart:

Stuart:

stuartfirebow001.jpg

The dampness of the wood was apparent, so after some "cooking" under the fire-pit, Stuart gave it one more go and did get smoke:

A little more drying of the components and success wont be far off.

Stuart making Bannock with added fruit leather:

Adding the slimming butter to the top:

Time for another Brew:

Looks like it was another good one, great to see some skills being employed! It's making me proper hungry though, especially the mountain man breakfast...you must attract empty stomaches like a fiddler does a barn dance by now. All the food looks nice but what exactly did Cliff do for the breakfast? Roll on lunchtime!:drive:
